Boston pretty much played awful tonight. Not to say that NO played good because they didnt, but outside of Paul and Big Al, the Cetlics did nothing right. Pierce coming up with 19 rebounds....wow. I guess going with the smaller lineup is going to really boost his rebounding statistics. On another note, Chris Paul looked amazing. He finds so many ways to get in to the lane and when he isnt scoring, he is always finding the open man. He is simply fantastic.

to go out on a limb, Chris Paul might become a (very) darkhorse for the mvp if everything clicks in new orleans, err, oklahoma city. he sure does play like one. he really isn't far behind nash at all when you take defense into account.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (yankshater213 @ Nov 1 2006, 09:44 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Two things I thought ruined the flow of the game:1. Missed free throws - I don't know if it was the ball as much as it could have been just rust on the parts of a few players. I mean, Wally looked excellent from the line. 2. Referee inconsistency - if you're going to call a few ticky tacky fouls, you've got to call them all so the players know what they can and can't do. So many horrible calls in this game for both sides. But yes, I do agree the entire first half was basically an unentertaining and frustrating shitfest. The second half made the game worth it. Whatever though, I was not expecting to win tonight anyways. It was good to see they were at least able to get back into it.</div>oh, I hated the officiating, calling all those dumb travels, half of which really didn't look like travels at all. not to mention the ticky-tacky fouls that were called. yuck.

Paul was scoring off of simple plays though, just rubbing Telfair/Rondo off the pick and driving. He must have done that like 3-4 times in a row in the third quarter. Once the Celtics defense adjusted and started going under the picks they were able to contain him more and force him to pass. Also when Jackson brought the ball down the floor I thought that Telfair did a half decent job denying Paul the ball.

I noticed early that you guys were playing small ball...Delonte West, Sebastian Telfair, Wally Szczerbiak, Paul Pierce and Kendrick Perkins...Is this something new? Enlighten me Celtics fans.

yeah, that was actually the starting line-up. but I think al may have earned himself a starting spot with tonight's play. I hope so.

I honestly had no clue. When they announced Delonte for the starting lineup I thought that Wally would be coming off the bench, but I was wrong and they said Wally was starting too. Led me to be a little confused, I didn't really like it that much either. I'm honestly just as confused as you are.

Wow incredible game for Chris Paul. 20 points, 10 assists, and 7 rebounds. Definetly a great game for him. HAHA 19 rebounds for Pierce was definetly a shocker. If Boston continues to play small then I wonder if Pierce could become a 10 rpg guy.

No, I'm not lying, Doc went super-small and started Bassy, Delonte, Wally, Pierce at the 4, and Perk. But I was very dissapointed with our overall play tonight. I hate when we go super-small. Although Pierce did have 19 boards tonight (awesome!), I don't like him starting at the 4. You have to start Gomes, Doc. Come on. We were absolutely atrotious at the FT line tonight, and that costed us the game, as well as way too many turnovers.

    Paul Pierce
29 and 19 - incredible. But that's not the two stat columns to pay attention to. Pay attention to the 2 for 8 from 3, and the 7-15 from the line! Terrible. Overall though, Paul Pierce played his heart out. Great game, but he NEEDS to knock down his free throws.

    Wally Szczerbiak
He really struggled shooting the ball tonight, especially in the first half. But he ran hard and he went up strong for a lot of layups in transition. He hit his free throws as well. OK night from Wally. If he made his jumpers we would have won this game as well.

    Al Jefferson
Big Al was excellent offensively tonight. 13 points off the bench was big, and he really hustled on the boards. He still went for too many up-fakes, which resulted in 3-4 stupid fouls. He ended up fouling out, which was not good. But offensively, he looked real good tonight, and he hustled. Overall pretty good game from Big Al.

    Ryan Gomes
Eh, an ok night. Nothing great. He got some boards and he hit a couple 18 footers, but nothing great.

    Kendrick Perkins
Was was solid. He blocked a couple shots, got some boards, and played with an attitude. He, like Al, make too many stupid fouls though. He really needs to stop that.

    Sebastian Telfair
He really didn't do anything noticeable at all, he was just kind of... there. He made some mistakes, as did everybody on the team, and he did make some nice passes that people didn't convert on. But nothing great at all from Bassy.

    Rajon Rondo
He filled the stat sheet - 6/4/3. But He got 3 turnovers (one backcourt violation - not a good play, one travel, and one throw away). He played ok defense in the halfcourt set, but off the picks Chris Paul murdered us. Overall, solid game for Rondo though. He really hustled.

    Delonte West
Delonte didn't shoot much tonight. He came up with some hustle plays and made some excellent passes in transition, but he needs to look to shoot more. He did not play great defense against Bobby Jackson, he gave him too much space on his shots. On Friday, Delonte needs to look to shoot the ball more. He's the 2-guard now.

    Tony Allen
I didn't like what TA did tonight. He tried to take people 1-on-1 too much as usual, he missed everything (layups), and he did nothing great defensively. He had one play that REALLY pissed me off: he was on a 3 on 1 break with Wally and Gomes at each of his sides and only 1 defender in the middle. Result: Tony Allen trying to score instead of pass and get a bucket, and he got a charge. Terrible. Tony, you are not Kobe Bryant, stop trying to be.

Gerald, Kandi, and Powe got DNP's.

    Chris Paul
He was sensational. 20/7/10 were the numbers. He found everyone open and he KILLED us off penetration. He drew a lot of fouls. Great game by CP3.

Bobby Jackson knocked down a lot of good shots off the bench, David West had a good night overall, and Linton Johnson was great on the boards. Peja couldn't buy a bucket, but he hit a couple big ones in the 4th.

I am very dissapointed at the Celtics for not winning this game on Red Auerbach night, especially in a very winnable game like this.

I can honestly say, the Celtics have the most annoying announcers I've ever heard..It was a good game if you were a fan of neither team..But both teams played out of control, no one made free-throws..It was obvious who the leaders were out there; Chris Paul and Paul Pierce..they both played excellent..

I could go on and on about this game but I'm making my thoughts short and sweet.~Paul was absolutely amazing, played like it was last minutes on the court after getting off to a slow start~AL J looked good but once again I don't understand the thinner AL, he looks weak on the inside rebounding~Kendrick looked very shaky~I want to punch Doc in the face for not having Gerald Green play in that game. On a night paying tribute to the heart and soul of this organization, how could you not put him in? He can clearly score and that's exactly what Boston needed tonight. Tony Allen was AWFUL tonight, awful, simple as that, Doc's in-game decision making boggles my mind. Try something new Doc, this season better not be like the last. side note...~Chris Paul looked incredible for the hornets

    - Paul was amazing but like I said in my post above - 7-15 from the FT line and 2-8 from 3.
    - Big Al looked excellent on the block, and I disagree about him looking bad rebounding. He was excellent in preseason with rebounding, and he was very active tonight. I mean it's hard to rack up more rebounds when you foul out and Pierce pulls down 19 of them.
    - Perk did look shaky. He still commits stupid fouls.
    - I also want to punch Doc in the face... and the stomach... and the ribs. Not so much because he didn't play Gerald opening night, because I didn't expect him to, but for playing super-small ball STILL. GOD! If he does this vs. Detroit tomorrow we will lose by 40.

But I agree that Gerald needs/deserves some run this year, and Tony Allen continues to piss me off. He did nothing right and he's still trying to take it to the rack like he's Kobe Bryant. Result: turnovers, missed layups, and 90% of Celtic fans hating you.

He's unbelievable. He absolutely slaughtered us off penetration. David West is in better shape than last year as well, he's going to have another big year.

Mike Gorman isn't bad, and how can you hate on The Cooz? But I can understand you disliking Tommy Heinsohn. As much as I love him, he is THE BIGGEST HOMER of all-time in any sport.

Whoa whoa whoa... how can you hate Cousy? Not only should you respect him for his basketball playing career, but what does it do wrong when broadcasting? He knows what he's talking about, he doesn't overvalue the youth at all, and he's a realistic guy.

Wow I guess I was unclear in what I was trying to say. I love the guy as a player and person, he's done great things on and off the court for this franchise. I value his opinion and he's a smart guy and all, but I can't stand his voice at all, it absolutely annoys the hell out of me.
