    If WASH wins and DET losses WASH will have 39 wins and DET 38.. . How does DET have that 8th seed clinched?

    You are missing something. It is ROW's that is the tiebreaker, not wins.

    Detroit has 33 ROW's. The Caps have 28 ROW's. Hence the Wings have the TB and have clinched a spot.

    ROW stands for regulation/OT wins. They discount the shootout wins when it comes to TB's, and rightfully so.

    The Caps have 10 SO wins. And amazingly have played in 20 SO's in 81 games, that is crazy. 25% of their game have gone to SO's. 10-10 record.
