This is another Underrated/overrated topic. This time it involves old school NBA players. I know, I posted this before...Underrated:Sidney Moncrief- One of the games best perimeter defenders of all time. He was more of an explosive scorer than his 15 per night stats showed. Moncrief could score with the best of them. He is Two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Four-time All-NBA First Team, Five-time NBA All-Defensive Team, and a Five-time All-Star but yet not many remember who he is.He was so strong and quick he had no choice but to become a good defender. He could bench his body weight plus 30 pounds which not only made him a great interior defender, but made him capable of banging inside with the big men.I remember him most for shutting down Larry Bird as his Milwaukee team swept the Boston Celtics in the semifinals. The Celtics team were one of the best teams in NBA history and Moncrief and his team stopped them.Andrew Toney- If you looked up the word overshadowed in the dictionary you would see a picture of Andrew Toney. He played for the same 76ers team as greats Moses Malone, Julius Erving, Maurice Cheeks, and for a short while Charles Barkley. He was the complete package. He had very little flaws in his game. The most impressive thing about Toney was his ability to take over in late game situations. He is one of the most clutch players in NBA history yet not many remember who he was or what he did. The Celtics actually traded for great defender Dennis Johnson just to guard Toney in the playoffs. Of course it didn't work. He still lit the Celtics up on the scoreboard which is why he is called the "Boston Strangler"Current Miami Heat coach Pat Riley once said, "He's the greatest clutch player I've ever seen. The hell with Jerry West!"Thats coming from a Hall Of Fame type coach.Mark Aguirre-How many players that averaged over 29 points in a season do we forget? Not many.Well Mark Aguirre averaged over 29 points per game in the 1983-1984 NBA season. He finished the season with 2,330 total points. Both Mavericks single-season scoring records still stand today. One of the league's most flashy and prolific scorers. He actually averages over 20 ppg for his entire 13 year NBA career. Most that do remember him remember his days in Dallas teaming with Rolando Blackman. However he helped lead the Detroit Pistons to 2 consecutive NBA titles.Overrated:Bill WaltonHal GreerBill SharmanReggie Miller

Who else is overrated? Try Pistol Pete Maravich. How is Hal Greer overrated? I don't know much about him, except for that he's one of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players.

Could be argued that he's the greatest passer of all-time, and he only averaged 44.2 ppg in 3 seasons at LSU. I'm not sure how that's overrated, but I guess it's just your opinion.

I agree with Pistol Pete being overrated also. He was one of those guys that played for the name on the front of his jersey.Let's not forget his teams never went anywhere either.

Your missing two underrated people, Oscar Robertson and Dominique.Robertson is arguably one of the best 5 players of all time, and is the only player in league hiostory to average a triple double. Nique has never receivee the respect he deserves just because he never won a championship

I dont think he is overrated at all. IMO Alex English is underrated.

Pete Maravich was nothing but a horrific ballhog who always had to have his hands on the ball. One of the most talented but pathetic players in NBA history.

If Wilt was as dominant as he gets credit for, then he should have more than 1 championship...

The Quentin Richardson? He was never a great. The topic clearly states "Underrated/Overrated Greats." Vlade wasn't an amazing center. He was like a seven foot point guard, and was amazing at getting the calls to go his way. He was an average scorer and rebounder though, and his defense wasn't anything special.

Paul Arizin. If he didn't have to serve in a war in the middle of his career, we'd mention him in the same breath as Jordan, Magic and Bird. Top 50 Greatest, and most kids don't even know he existed.

Oscar Robertson is the most underrated player to ever play the game. The Big O could produce 30 ppg, 10 apg, and 10 rebounds per game playing almost every position on the court. Underrated:Oscar RobertsonJames WorthyJoe DumarsScottie Pippen
