http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/430...t_in_milwaukee/<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Billups Has Interest In Milwaukee? 4th November, 2006 - 4:45 am Boston Globe - When this season ends, Pistons guard Chauncey Billups has a player option worth $6.8 million for 2007-08. According to a close friend of Billups, the veteran point guard has interest in Milwaukee. And the interest might be mutual when the time is right. With the Bucks projected to be $14 million under the salary cap next season and in need of a point guard, Billups could be a good fit. In Detroit's season-opening loss to Milwaukee Wednesday night, Billups saw the Bucks' young talent firsthand. The same friend said Billups liked what he saw. Chicago signed Billups's former Detroit teammate Ben Wallace to a four-year deal worth $60 million during the offseason. And if you ask the Celtics, Billups was just as valuable to the Pistons as Wallace in recent years, if not more so. "In my eyes, Chauncey is probably the best one-time All-Star in the history of the game," said Paul Pierce, who believes the Pistons' floor general should have received the honor at least three times. "The way he controls the game, the way his tempo is, the way he gets these guys going, he's the unquestioned leader of that team. He's capable of getting it done on both ends." [READ]</div> We need a PG? Really? We already have Mo Williams, Charlie Bell and Steve McBlake. I really like Chauncey Billups but in all honesty I would be pissed if we signed him. He's already well into his prime and we cannot sign him and keep Villanueva and Bogut with Redd's max contract. It just doesn't make any sense at all to me.

Actually the Bucks could still sign Bogut and Villanueva to extensions since they are already on the squad and Milwaukee owns their Bird rights (thus the salary cap situation plays no role in their re-signing), but then you guys would most likely be in salary cap purgatory for the next five or so years. But I'm not sure... Billups would be a good fit in Milwaukee if the Bucks gave him a short term deal. It would be a mistake to give him big money and a long term contract... they'd be better off sticking with Bell, Williams and Blake.

I don't want us overpaying for him when we have rookie deals ending in a few years. We're already sucking up Gadzuric's and Simmons bad contracts.

Billups and Redd would make the best back-court in the league, no doubt. Bucks fans, which would you rather have - Cassell and Allen backcourt of 2001, or a potential Billups and Redd backcourt next season? This is blasphemy anyways. Chauncey can never leave Detroit.

If Billups left, I would probably commit suicide. You can quote me on that. I love Chauncey, not in a queer kind of way, but he would never leave Detroit. I said the same thing about Ben Wallace. It's possible that I'd switch over to liking Billups new team if he left.

Also, I noticed people listing Williams as a reason Billups doesn't make sense in Milwaukee. Since he's a free agent after this year, if you guys sign Billups, that means he won't be on the team. So getting Billups would fill a need. Blake would be the backup pg, Bell getting minutes at both the 1 and 2. It works out.
