brief preview.Washington scouting report:-They run a high powered offense generated by a "big 3" of Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison, and Caron Butler. Outside of these three, not much of the team can really hurt you.-Gilbert Arenas is just about impossible to guard, so we'll just have to do our best to contain him. I say we double him at almost any opportunity, and hope we can rotate in time. I'd rather take our chances with someone else shooting most of the shots.-Antawn Jamison is just a shooter to me, if we can get someone to play tough defense (likely Gomes, maybe Wally) on him, he shouldn't be too much of a factor, although he always seems to have a small stretch where he can't be guarded.-As for Caron Butler, he normally starts off hitting, then slowly dissolves, as most of his effort is being put into guarding paul pierce down the stretch. I say we let him get his rather than Gilbert Arenas doing so.Keys to the game:-try your best to contain Gilbert Arenas. I know, I know, easier said than done. this is especially important down the stretch.-penetrate and post up. this team has a weak interior defense that can be taken advantage of. Brendan Haywood is decent, but not enough to stop pierce from going all the way or al from posting up.-Handle the ball. Washington is very quick, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them trapping a little bit. it is essential that our point guards can handle the ball. imo, that's what lost us the game to new orleans.Key match-up:[IMG] vs. [IMG]Gilbert Arenas vs. Delonte WestX Factor[IMG]Al Jefferson.Like I said, we should (ahem, doc) take advantage of what we have downlow. Al is playing great lately, and I think this will be his best game yet. he can use his strength against jamison and songalia, and he can use his finesse against haywood.Dogma's prediction:Pierce doesn't let this team lose. Also, this washington is one of the only teams we can actually survive against playing small ball.BOS- 107 WAS- 105

I love how you have Boston winning, even though you know that Gilbert will destroy Telfair, and that Jamison will also abbuse Gomes and Jefferson. I dont see you guys winning this game at all. I think the "2 point Boston victory" was a bit of a homer pick imo.

Oh, hell no. If you think we're going to lose to the Celtics on OUR homecourt, you're out of your mind. Gilbert is most likely going to blow up for 35 pts, after the poor game had against the Cavs. It always happens. Gomes is a good defender, but not a good perimeter defender from what I hear. Jamison will take him outside, and that will cause Gomes to come out of the paint to guard Jamison. Butler will be Butler. He gives us 17-23 pts every night, along with 5-7 rebounds, and a couple of assists. Wally is way too weak and slow to guard Butler down low. The only player that the Cs have who kill us offensively is Pierce. He's always done that, and we realize that he's pretty good in every department of the game. Other than him, none of the Celtics scare us, except maybe Delonte. We'll take this easily. It's the home opener for us, Gilbert just got off a bad game, Butler always does great at home or road, and Jamison is inconsistent sometimes, but he has these stretches where he scores 6 or 7 pts in a row. Who will guard Arenas in the first 7-8 mins of the game then? Paul Pierce? Dont think so. He doesn't have the lateral quicks. Same thing with Rondo, Delonte, and even Tony Allen. Gilbert will probably score atleast 30+, and Jamison should score over 20 with an easy matchup like that. All I was saying is that your prediction was 100% homeristic.

Hopefully the Celtics lose and start out 0-3.I'll be watching this one on NBATV with my fingers crossed.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (nba dogmatist @ Nov 4 2006, 01:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>oh, and the wizards have never lost on their homecourt? that's interesting. You shouldnt be a mod imo if youre going to talk that way to respected members.Delonte West wont be on the court in the opening 7 minutes. The backcourt will be Telfair, and Pierce. When did I say that Rondo and Allen donthave lateral quickness? I just said that Pierce isnt quick enough to cover Gilbert. No matter how good you think Rondo is at defense, he's a rookie, and he's going up against the 2nd best offensive scorer at the pg position. He wont be able to stop Arenas, and neither will any of your other players.

Oh, okay, I wasnt aware of that. Delonte isnt even a good defender anyway, so it doesn't matter. And when I said "same thing", I meant that those 3 could not guard Gilbert, not that they did not have lateral quickness. And you wont be able to contain him.

delonte west isn't a good defender? really, man, you need to watch these guys. delonte west can be a very good defender. he's shown several flashes of this. he held mike bibby to like 5 points last year.oh, and I guess I'll take your word for it, there is no possible way the celtics hav e achance in containing arenas.

Yeah, Delonte West is only an average defender imo, just like how you thinK Anthony Parker is only an average defender. The Celtics do have little chance of containing Arenas. The Washington Wizards are also winless, and Arenas will be hungry, and he will take advantage of Telfair/Delonte/Rondo defending him. Rondo and Delonte are pretty good defenders, but they wont be able to contain Arenas. No way.

Jesus christ, stop bitching each other out.

But dogma, I have to agree with CB4 and Zards, Washington isn't losing this one. They had a terrible game in Cleveland, and Arenas really stunk it up. He will dominate our guards. Delonte is a solid defender, but when Arenas is on Jason Kidd can't even stop him.

And dogma, I think you're underrated Antawn Jamison, like most do. He's more than "just a shooter." He is a guy that is capable of a double-double every night, he can post up, he's strong, and yeah he can shoot the ball.

I think you should definitely change the key matchup to Butler/Pierce. That's easily the best matchup in my mind, Butler is a 20 point scorer and a solid defensive player, and we all know Paul Pierce is The Truth.

I predict a 10-12 point loss, actually. We can keep up with Washington, we can beat them. But they had our number last year, and like I said they are coming off a bad game, Arenas having a horrid game. Arenas will come out firing at all cylindars and I don't care if we have Delonte West, Rajon Rondo, Tony Allen, etc. on him - we can't stop him.

My message to Doc: Don't play Gerald Green, I will punch you in your mouth. Play small ball - I will brutally assassinate you in front of your family.

Jamison is not a post up player at all. he is soft, he plays on the perimeter, he is a good rebounder, but that doesn't have to do with his offense.and when I say contain, it's different with arenas because he's so good. my idea of containing arenas would be around 25 points. that's definitely not out of reach.

So what if he doesn't have much of a post game? He is still an 18-20 ppg scorer, and he will take advantage of his matchups and demand the ball.Ha? Arenas just came off a tough loss to Cleveland like CB32 said. He will be hungry, and he will attack the Celtics all day long. 25 points is a very big reach for Arenas. I'll wear a "Celtics PWN the Raptors" sig for a week if they keep Arenas under 25 points. But you wear a "Gilbert Arenas PWNS the Celtics" sig if Arenas scores over 30...Deal?

    1. Jamison may not be Tim Duncan on the block, but he has an ok post game, and he's strong. Add that in with our inexperienced frontline (who is not very good defensively, especially without Theo), he could do damage.

    2. Arenas getting 25 is containing him? Well, that's good way to overrate a box score, huh? He averaged 28-29 last year, 25 is right there. That's containing him? No, to me, containing Arenas is 20 points or less and forcing him to shoot lower than 50%. What if he dishes 9 assists with it... or hits the 2 GW free throws in the closing seconds (lol, last year). Even if Arenas does score 25, Jamison is good for around 20, same with Butler, Daniels/Hayes can both score double digits, and Stevenson is very solid. Not to mention their bigs are BIG and physical.

He has brought his A game in the last two games scoring 29 and 22. In the NO/BOS game, he led to the Celtics come back but then just cooled down alittle bit. Same has yesterday, he led the Celtics to a comeback but then cooled down. Most likely Pierce will be scoring high in the first half and hopefully the celtics can play some nice defense and still manage to score without Paul doing everything.

First of all, you are making Paul Pierce sound like a player who disappears at the end of games, when in reality he excells in the 4th quarter. Last night, NOBODY played well in the 4th quarter.

Second of all, just because Pierce has a point total of 22 doesn't mean he "brought his A game." He had an excellent 3rd quarter, and a definite solid overall game, but that's not his A Game.
