Not a big fan of Fox News, but Dana Perino makes some solid points in the article. She was W's press secretRy, I believe.

    The gist is this...

Mainstream republicans aren't so biased/bigots as a few hardcore idiots are.

So Republicans elect blacks. Nominate them to the Supreme Court. DeMaio here in San Diego is openly gay republican elected by republicans. There are a number of republican women either elected or who prominently ran for big office (Fiorina, etc.).

Yet left wing black organizations mercilessly work to destroy successful black republicans. Similar for left wing women's groups (like siding with Clinton vs. Paula Jones). And now LGBT groups not supporting gay republicans.

Looking elsewhere, the gist of what I am reading is that he doesn't get big support from LGBT groups because
I'm sure the organizations and groups are far more interested in supporting someone who will politic for their rights over someone who has their same sexuality but will not. Seems more like common sense. People voting or supporting based on their beliefs and what they feel a candidate can do for them or country as a whole. I'm sure that unions wouldn't put their support behind a union member running for office if he wasn't going to work for union rights.

    From the article:

Note the bit about homophobic attacks coming at him from the left?

Seems like a flimsy article based on one small, specific attack ad, and then crying about him not getting support from a community he isn't actively politicking for. The attack ad wasn't from a LGBT group, it was paid for by his opponent's supporters. It's a shitty ad for sure, but to act like the LGBT community isn't supporting him, though he's gay, and thus intolerant is ridiculous.

Shouldn't the LGBT community be out there denouncing it? Or do they only protect democrats?

Maybe they did. I dunno. The article is trash though. Like a lot of political writing that tries to put a bullshit spin on something. She tries to paint it that the LGBT community is hypocritical and doesn't support him simply because he's a republican, but that's false.

Also, the egregious and false attack ad was fined because the PAC was shady and a lie. The ad wasn't saying don't vote for him because he's gay. They were fined for misrepresentation of their affiliation, not because it was a false ad, as she tries to paint it.

Well, that's false to begin with.

    Democrats in action!

    http://www.10news.com/news/demaio-a...-to-fine-local-political-consultants-10112013

SAN DIEGO - A group of local Democratic political consultants behind dozens of robocalls and a flier that aimed to keep Carl DeMaio from being elected mayor in 2012 has been fined thousands of dollars by the San Diego Ethics Commission for violating city election laws.

10News went to an office building in Fashion Valley to speak with Jesus Cardenas, one of the Democratic consultants fined and also behind the flier, but were told by Neighborhood Market Association staff that they evicted him and his consulting company Innovation Media Group last month.

Cardenas, Juan Boyce and Cynara Velazquez made up the group, "Conservatives For Gay Rights Supporting Carl DeMaio For Mayor 2012," according to the San Diego Ethics Commission.

I don't see you supporting your case here or prvious, or refuting what I said. Don't see what good points were brought in article, it was terrible. Feel free to continue to drift away from it though.

During the mayoral campaign, DeMaio has been booed at various LGBT-centric events, including a mayoral debate in Hillcrest, a rainbow flag-raising ceremony for the community and the annual Pride parade in which he walked alongside his longtime partner.

    ...

To be sure, the community overwhelmingly favors Democrats, but current Mayor Jerry Sanders, a Republican, is praised by gays for his emotional public stance in favor of same-sex marriage in 2007. DeMaio also favors same-sex marriage and has repeatedly voted in favor of LGBT issues in his four years on the City Council, but such stances have earned him little admiration.

yep, exactly what I said, they don't support him because he's not an advocate for gay rights like they want, not strictly because he's a republican, as the article tried to say.

So..the LGBT community liked one republican, but dislikes another? Maybe it has more to do with how sleazy DeMaio comes off as than the fact that he is gay. Would you rather they just come out and support any gay candidate?

I actually had no clue he was gay. I based my opinion of him based on all the times he was on TV as a councilman the years before the mayoral race. Maybe they did too.

Like his 100% voting record for LGBT issues.

Filner was the scumbag . It was widely known before the election. Yet the hypocrites supported him.

Filner is another subject, but DeMaio looks and talks as if he'd take money from anyone.

Maybe this is why they didn't support him

You do what you have to, sometimes, to win elections. It wasn't illegal. His voting record wasn't in favor of anything like Prop 8.

Filner is who they chose over Demaio. So he is relevant.
