Maybe Olshey saw this was going to happen sooner than later. Could be a good reason for him to bolt. I mean the GM has a very personable relationship with owners, so I'm sure the racist comments happened behind closed doors.

I don't think it was racism; I just think he's a shitty owner.

It's not like this guy was Jerry Buss or Jerry Reinsdorf. Sterling has been an embarrassment for years as an owner. The cheapest owner for years who was a remora on the rest of the League. They couldn't wait to get rid of him.

Sterling could delay things quite a bit:
    1) sure, I'll sell it to my wife (which the league won't allow)
    2) sure, who's got $3 billion? (which no one will pay)

There are bylaws I'm sure that have "exit strategies" for events like this. Buying into the league, I'm sure you must sign the bylaws. So I am sure if the owners vote, the price can't come out from "thin air". Most likely "Fair Market Value" will be the wording...

According to reported bylaws (woj) if 24 of the other 29 owners vote to make Sterling sell his franchise, then the league would take over running the team temporarily while the team would be put up for auction (which would like be north of 1 billion).

    Go. Warriors.

I hate the Clips almost as much as I hate the L*kers. Send LA home whining.

Suffice to say, I'm shocked. I'm curious to see how the inevitable legal battle plays out.

Re: What I'd like to hear Silver say

Sterling has publicly said "My team is not for sale". I'm sure there will be a messy legal battle to follow the vote. I have a feeling that Sterling would rather burn the team to the ground before he sells the team.

I do understand that he has no control of the day to day operations, but if attorneys get involved, I can see a lot of time wasted in process

Re: What I'd like to hear Silver say

First, I'm almost certain there is a binding arbitration agreement among the owners.

Second, there is almost certainly a "Fair Market Value" likely using a three appraisal method (one chosen by the owners, one chosen by the arbitrator and one chosen by Sterling). Remember, the owners want a high price as well. SAC and MIL were recently sold, as well as Los Doyers, so there are good figures out there.

Yep. This is going to court. I'm stunned Silver was this forceful.

Re: What I'd like to hear Silver say

And we know it's gonna be expensive. I mean didn't Milwaukee sell for 700 mil or something? The clippers are worth more than that by a long shot.

What I don't want to see is some sort of fire sale. Give Sterling the right amount from the gate, and no suit will warrant the delay. The moment you nickel and dime him, the longer the process can take.

My guess is the figure is north of $1.2B.

He had to be... The players union threatened to boycott the playoffs. Could you imagine the insanity if all the sudden there is no playoffs?

Re: What I'd like to hear Silver say

I can tell you one thing... I don't expect the Clippers to get "darling" calls anymore. They are about as relevant as any other "small market team" now. I almost think that Silver wants the clips out of the playoffs as soon as possible.
