Re: Mark Cuban's Comments on Sterling

I'm guessing he went all in knowing that Sterling was going to fight it regardless of what it was. A 1 game ban and 10 dollar fine and out of principal Sterling would have fought it.

I think Nic nailed it on the head. The NBA has a right to protect their public image.

So yes, a league can destroy one's business based on private opinions that become public. If someone doesn't like the rules, don't get a franchise in the NBA.

Yeah the Clippers should be close to a billion probably.

Nice move by Silver. I wouldn't expect that from Stern.

Stern would have delayed it as much as possible. I hated that guy with a passion. The media loves him because he made them billions of dollars, but he was a shitty commish who didn't care about the league for a second.

I would think so and this could get very ugly. If Sterling doesn't fight you know there are more skeleton's knocking to come out.

Cuban just tweeted that he agrees on the lifetime ban. Sounds like he's speaking a different language to me then what he said in the interview.

Wow - what a difference a commissioner makes! From Stern to Silver - night & day! Best 1st round of the Playoffs, ever. Most parity in the league in decades. Kicking Sterling to the curb.
I know Silver isn't responsible for everything, but it's pretty awesome that all these great things are happening under his watch. He's gotta feel like Milhouse:

I agree, you know there are bound to be plenty of players that are racist, sexist, hateful of homosexuals etc....should we kick them out of the league? I think the NBAs harsh response was made out of fear of being accused of being "soft on racism".

My take too. Cuban said you can't take someone's property over something they said in presumed private that was not business related.

He'd sue for being to sell below market value. His sale would be "distressed."

    OK then.

Can we get back to basketball now?

I know the networks are not going to want to let this die down, shit like this sells, and selling is all that matters.

But, can we get back to basketball now?

I am thinking Silver came down with the swift and strong sanctions to get all focus back on the playoffs themselves.

Re: What I'd like to hear Silver say

This decision really bothers me. Sterling is pretty much a nothing of a person in my mind and I will be glad to see him no longer associated with the NBA--if it happens. But, where do you now draw the line? If it comes out that Joe Lacob (Warriors owner) voted yes on Prop 8, does he have to sell his team? Many would argue that it is just as offensive as what Sterling did.

I also would rather see this dealt with by the fans and sponsors withdrawing money and forcing Sterling to sell. Clearly Sterling is a vile racist, but having big brother force him out over a private conversation seems troubling.

Where do you draw the line?

What if he said the same thing about other protected classes, like gays, Catholics or old people? Should the league react the same way? Why not?

Has a player who committed an actual crime ever been fined this much and suspended for life? Ridiculous double standard.
