He's 81. I imagine some of the calculus on the legal side is that he may die before it's all settled. Meanwhile, the NBA can look responsive to the controversy and get him out of league-sanctioned limelight, which is what matters.

Poll: Will Sterling be owner of the Clippers at the beginning of next season

Early indications are that Sterling is going to fight it. If he does my guess is that there are many ways he can delay things into oblivion.

Exactly... And we know that Sterling is a "sue happy" billionaire. It's not like you will be dealing with a person that can't afford to "take it to the man"

How about making a poll if you're going to ask for one?

I think he'll be gone in two months. The NBA keeps several ownership groups on tap in case of owner death, financial troubles, etc. They've all been vetted and approved.

Yes he will still be the owner. I think this will take at least 2 years to kick him out.

Anal rape a hotel clerk and you can still get a $28 million contract extension, but don't say something racist or homophobic in the "privacy" of your home, or you're fined and banned for life. Is that kind of your point?

Re: Mark Cuban's Comments on Sterling

I actually deleted that post because I re-read the article and changed my mind. What Cuban kept saying he had a problem with was "kicking someone out of the league" for thoughts/statements. Seems like the lifetime ban is exactly what he was saying shouldn't happen.

Re: What I'd like to hear Silver say

You bring up a legitimate point. But I think the NBA has more of a vested interest in this matter considering 80+ percent of the players are Black and not to mention myriad fans.

With regard to supporting Prop 8 and other anti-gay marriage initiatives, gay marriage is only legal in 17/50 states and isn't perceived to be on the same level as race relations. Moreover, this country as had an ugly history with Black people that it hasn't had with gay people.

Re: Mark Cuban's Comments on Sterling

Mark Cuban can bitch all he wants but these things happen all the time.

Example: A corporation can vote out the owner from handling the "day to day" operations, because that owner has tarnished the "good name" of the company. The same is said about the "NBA" kicking out an owner they feel has tarnished the brand "NBA".

And this isn't some "legal" court preceding here. It is an entity that nba owners and players all have a stake in. So if the Owners and Players feel that Sterling "staying an owner" will tarnish the "good name" of the "nab", then they have every right to kick him out.

Wrong... Voting for "prop 8" is just as detrimental to the "good name" of the NBA. The line drawn is black and white. The moment you go gray, then everything is questionable.

And I wish him all the success as an owner that Michael Jordan has enjoyed over the years.

Here's to Magic Johnson, team owner!

Not sure how B can happen without C happening in your poll.

Certainly there is a difference in degree. But, I can almost guarantee that this will come up again in the context of a Christian owner and support of heterosexual marriage. Just a matter of time.

Then all we'd need is for that fool Shaq to buy a Western Conference team and it will be smooth sailing to the WCF for the foreseable future.
