No, this is not thought police or slippery slope. And it has nothing to do with any vote, which is a private matter. Nor has it anything to do with anyone's religion (not every Christian is antigay, but please, can we stick to the issue?)

It is an extreme measure taken in an extreme case against an owner with a long history. Had Sterling just made the awful remarks, without the lawsuit and other past crap, he'd probably get away with a fine.

Because it sets a precedent that is beyond "law". Think about it bro. Is it against the law for a white man to yell out racial slurs? Yet an NBA owner is being forced out, for not breaking the law. So what Cuban is proclaiming is the same. The nature in which he was forced out has nothing to do with 30% of the States voting for it. Hell 0% of the states in the USA says its against the law to say racial slurs.

Re: Poll: Will Sterling be owner of the Clippers at the beginning of next season

Apparently, it's not easy for 9 of 11 of us :)

My guess is that Sterling, like the rest of us, doesn't like being told what to do. If that's the case, then selling the team for its current market value is losing, even if a billion dollars seems like a lot to all of us reading this board.

If Sterling is dead, who cares that he was a racist fuck when he was alive. At that point maybe the NBA drops the whole thing. The media, fans and players won't care at that point.

The interesting thing is that the NBA is a private sector that has its own bylaws. I'm sure all owners had to sign these bylaws in order to become owner. With that said, the NBA is not the government. They can violate civil rights, just like Sly could ban a person here talking shit about gay people and you couldn't sue for the "freedom of speech" card.

It is a double standard, but it is still a private company and business. So they can tell you "Kick and scream all you want, until you own a team, kick rocks"

I'm talking about a civil case. Like the "Sterlings" suing for 2 billion dollars for damages...

I'm with you man. I don't think Sterling will go down quietly. I can see numerous civil lawsuits against the NBA, players union, whatever he can bring down with them. I think he will remain an owner until there is a "court order" forcing him to sell.

Re: What I'd like to hear Silver say

He is not being kicked out only because of the racist remarks, he is being admonished by the rest of the owners for harming their businesses. There are shared revenue streams in the NBA, and a ton of advertisers were already pulling out, and many clipper fans were saying they would boycott the team. So, you don't need to look at it as big brother caring about what you say in your own house, you can see it as the rest of the owners care about the image of their league and the health of all revenue streams.

the problem that the league will have is in trying to use the tape in court. California law will not allow it if the tape was made without the consent of Sterling, and if there was no consent, whoever made the tape can be liable.
