Catch phrases are loads of fun, and easy to make all by yourself. For example, in response to anyone who says to you "Check your privilege", snidely reply "Check your snivelege".
Check my privilege? I have, thanks. You’re still wrong http://www.spectator.co.uk/columnis...my-privilege-i-have-thanks-youre-still-wrong/
Another article that only makes vague generalizations and talks in stereotypes. Yawn. At least this guy knows what the phrase actually means: I think he'd be surprised at the answer.
The inherent assumption is that an experience of "being down with The Struggle" somehow means that particular point of view is superior. Again, I call bullshit.
Questioning the accuracy of a privileged point of view is not about elevating the unprivileged point of view. The fact that you, and the authors of the articles posted in this thread, think it's about superiority is telling.
The catchphrase is meant to end the conversation, not start one. Therefore, my thesis holds and yours fails.
honestly, i have about as much interest in people blathering "quit judging me because i am a white male!" as a person of any other race or sex doing the same thing there are articles or blogs expressing the same sentiment about being poor, black, gay, a woman, asian, rich, short, ugly, fat, smart, tall, skinny, near-sighted, etc, etc, on and on and on. i find them ALL tedious for the most part. give me a personal example of your plight so that i may better understand your struggle in this cruel world. show me your scars. you got your feelings hurt? dont bother. dont get me wrong, prejudice is a real thing, and im sure he has had a real rough go of it, but color me unimpressed. a 20 year old that has life all figured out. doubtful. likely he will look back at this article in another 20 years and cringe at every other sentence. now, if this guy gets beaten with a cactus, shot in the face by a cop, or penetrated by a balled up bicycle chain for the poor misfortune of being a white male, there might be something worth reading at that point. let me know.
I love how you, and many others, assume you know what the intent is. Why do you assume you know? Perhaps you have a thing that needs checking?
Meh, boring... and if someone told me to 'check my privi' I'd tell them to fuck off and deal. Work hard, and earn what you get. There are plenty of successful people in this world no matter what color, sex, bla bla bla they are.
