I agree, Allen's up there in age and with his lack of handles or shot, I'd really hesitate to commit much $ or years to a defense-based aging player. The more I think about it, the more Pau really makes a ton of sense, if he'd consider us. We could split the C minutes right down the middle, and sit Pau on back to backs. No one would be worried about fouls. When Pau is in w/Aldridge he can man the high post like Camby used to and play some pick n rolls when Lamarcus is on the opposite elbow; when in with Robinson he could play down low where he's most comfortable and they'd compliment each other well b/c Pau's such a great passer and, like Lopez, wonderful at boxing out. Sure, not a lot of defense, but I think Robinson can develop that more and be the guy defending out on pick n rolls while Pau stays home. Really where else is he going to go and be on a contending team where he's not heavily relied upon?
Batum had a better season than Iguodala and had a better first round. Iguodala and his 13 PER is about as overrated a player that I can think of in the NBA. If he somehow makes Team USA again, the fix is in.
I agree on Iggy. Very athletic. Good defender. Overrated at basketball. He's not coming off our bench anyway, so it doesn't matter. I'm on board with Pao. We'd have an amazing big man rotation. We could limit minutes for both Robin and Pau, and play them situationally. Pao is going to want more than the MLE. But can he get it?
IF we keep starters as is: then try to add Pao Gasol or Deng with full MLE money. Hope Mo does not opt out. Lillard - Matthews - Batum - Aldridge - Lopez as starters Mo - CJ - Wright - TRob - Gasol, with the rest mopping up after. If we attempt to go for it: then try to trade Batum or Matthews and any bench players/picks for Melo. Lillard - MatthewsORBatum - Melo - Aldridge - Lopez plays with anybody!!!
I don't think any contenders can give him more than that, realistically. Unless, of course, the Lakers are amenable to a sign and trade, but why would they be when they want to make a run at Carmelo and/or Love? Maybe a sign and trade with either of them (Phil Jackson/Rubio). But I don't see Minny as a contender or him fitting next to Pekovich at all. NY w/o Melo is a pretty sad team. We have the MLE just like OKC, San Antonio (he may enjoy playing next to Duncan and for Pop), Miami (he'd actually be devastating there down low), Indiana (no room), Clippers (not a great fit), Dallas (he and Dirk would be perfect compliments but terrible defense and not contenders), Golden State (we're stronger), and Memphis (not enough $ unless Z-bo is gone). I see Portland as attractive an opportunity for him as any other.
I've said it before, I'll say it again: If Carmelo Anthony dons the Scarlet and Black, I will actively root against the team until he's gone. I don't want that piece of shit anywhere near Portland.
Nobody in the starting 5 is leaving... Bottom-line. With the upcoming salary-cap increase to $63.2 million we are looking at around: $7,469,842 If Mo doesn't pick up his PO and if the team declines Barton $6,554,599 if Mo doesn't pick up his PO and if the team accepts Barton $4,698,502 if Mo picks up his PO and if the team declines Barton $3,783,259 if Mo picks up his PO and if the team accepts Barton to spend in Free Agency. So we have a chance of affording someone good but I believe since we are the under the cap our MLE isn't very large.
I was saying we need a third star. Now that we've advanced past the first round, I no longer believe that and we should just concentrate on role players. :MARIS61:
Even Navarro's teammates can't stand him. The gif isn't long enough to show Claver and Gasol high-fiving Batum after he nutted their teammate. :MARIS61:
I'm not in favor of trading some of our best chemistry guys for Carmelo. Just improve the bench and continue to groom the young guys.
You know I do like Glenn Robinson III and Olshey says we will be a player in the draft. How do you guys feel about this kid? Not saying he's the missing piece but He'll probably be better than Wright.
I was really disappointed when he didn't come out last year; I would have been quite pleased with him at 10. As it stands, unless he shows himself to have the length and strength to be an NBA 3, I don't think we have room for him. Would he bring anything that we don't already supposedly have between Crabbe and Barton?
I think we should look at Sergio this summer. He finally looks to have turned the corner and looks like an actual NBA player. He's finishing at the rim and his jumper is legit .....shockingly.
