Again I know its early but offensively he really needs to start getting his shit together. I mean hell, Russell Martin could have given us these numbers. And for a lot less money.
...(rolls eyes). ...enough already?...what do you want to do, bench him? 1. it's not like he's getting over matched at the plate, he's only struck out 13 times in 106 ABs while Gardner (why he continues to lead off makes no sense) has struck out 29 times and in less ABs. (highest rate on the team) 2. yes, McCann is only batting .217 but somehow his BAbip is actually LOWER than his BA. Not sure how that can be but it's very rare. Regardless, it clearly shows that he's been extremely unlucky and that his numbers are sure to climb. 3. the guy is doing his best and it's not like he's up there flailing wildly at the plate and is at least trying to go the other way vs the shift and has succeeded a few times. ...he will improve, period.
I like the way McCann handles the staff, did look like he was doing a good job of going the other way, don't know what happened. Sure like having McCann and Murphy in there more so than Stewart. New league as well, the man will figure it out.
My point was that Russell Martin could hit 217. With that said you made a great point of McCann going against the shift & I have been very impressed by that. All in all I think he'll come around.
Remembered that Stewart went to Pittsburg but checking out last nights game Sanchez was catching and backing up Martin. Checked the Pirates Roster and they show Sanchez & Stewart listed with Martin on the DL. Not sure if Stewart would get sent down when Martin does get back.
^^^I think Stewart has been on the DL as well...and I also think the Pirates have carried 3 catchers on the roster pretty much all year.
We have enough catchers, anyway we can help the Pirates out? Now lets see, what can we use in exchange?
I really like that John Ryan Murphy kid and one point some may be missing is that McCann is going to be a damn good mentor.
...^^^same here...if the kid can figure out how to hit RHed pitching he'll have a long career...and you're right about McCann being a mentor.
...but like I mentioned, at this point Murphy is a platoon catcher who only starts vs LHed pitching...which in a way is OK because it gives McCann a day off vs LHers. Cervelli is at least respectable hitting vs RHed pitching, Murphy at this point is not. ...Cervelli is on the 60 day DL...I'm guessing around the middle of June.
