http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/431...s_appendectomy/ <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The Boston Celtics announce that forward Al Jefferson had successful appendectomy surgery at New England Baptist Hospital this afternoon. The surgery was performed by Dr. Steven Camer and Dr. Farhat Homsy and assisted by Celtics Team Physician Dr. Brian McKeon. In three games this season, Jefferson is averaging 11.3 points and 7.0 rebounds in 26.7 minutes per game. He recorded his first double-double of the season, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, against the Detroit Pistons on November 3.</div> WTF. Every time we get something good going with a player, Big Al especially, he gets hurt. I feel bad for Al and I really hope he gets well soon. Apendicitis - ouch, that has to be very painful. As for the Celtics, WTF. He was our only good/consistant big man so far in the season, and he was playing very well. Now he's out. Activate Powe and play the kid a little. Also, this is going to suck, because this will force Doc to play small ball a little extra. Yay... At least Theo is back.
This hurts Boston's already terrible big man depth. Who is going to play PF now? Ryan Gomes, and then...? Olowokandi? Give me a break..The Celtics are gonna get murdered by any team that has a good offensive big man.
In my option al jefferson is done. He been injuried every year and his ankles are very weak. PLus I dont get y hes not in shape. every time I watch a game it looks like hes cant breathe. I also dont know y he and perkins dont work together. Al and perk are very good young plasyers. I Saw include al in a deal and get a young veteran kind of player like in his late 20s that can provide boards defense nd inside scoring. Idk anybody else have any thoughts on this
I don't think he's done C's nation, I still think he has potential. But his potential is vastly overrated, he needed to go to college and develop not only his body but his game. He clearly wasn't ready to make the jump, his body got really banged up after one very nice rookie season. His endurance has improved this year but it's still not that great and he just doesn't seem to have that killer instinct. He could have been a prime player at the college level, it would have prepared him both mentally and physically for the NBA. I'm not throwing in the towel on him just yet but I have doubts about him. This does suck, but honestly.....more playing time for Gomes, he's more effective, more versatile, and can play more minutes.

No. For one, Al isn't "done." He has been playing very well (preseason and 3 regular season games), and he's looking very comfortable/better out there. And you don't think Al is in shape? I beg to differ. He lost 30 lbs. this summer, got his ankle fixed, is moving much quicker on the court, has a MUCH quicker jump (hence the much improved shot blocking). He isn't huffing and puffing like you say he is. And about Al/Perk, they are awesome out there together... if there were no referee's. Perk fouls like crazy, and Al has been known to as well. Al has at least improved a lot in that department, but Perk still is a hacker and he falls for EVERY up-fake. The biggest reason for these two not seeing much time on the floor together is because Perk usually gets in foul trouble within the first few minutes of the game. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>why me? right when al is starting to come out of his shell, he needs to get his appendix removed? give me a break!</div> Why you? Give you a break? How about give Al a break. This kid has had ankle problems the first 2 years in the league, he finally gets it fixed and he lost 30 lbs. His overall game improved a lot from last year. He has a good preseason, and plays excellent ball in the first 3 games of the season. Then he wakes up and has to lay up in a hospital after having apendix surgery. This kid just can't catch a break, and I really feel bad for him because he's really starting to get his act together. Also notice that every time Al goes down with an injury/problem, it's right when he starts playing well? Even last year with his ankle. EDIT: An update on Al. On FSN, Greg Dickerson said that Danny Ainge told him that Al could be out anywhere from 3-6 weeks. So, maybe and hopefully it's only 2-3, but Ainge says it could go up to 6. If so, that's a huge blow. Al is our only offensive low-post presence, and he's really picking up on the defensive end with his shot blocking and rebounding. So, just alerting you to not be surprised if Big Al is out for a month-month and a half.
Yeah I see what you guys are saying...it sucks but when Gomes plays more minutes than AL J the Celtics do better...it's simple as that

They will make do.

I don't really seeing AL J being a huge problem, he's not that great of a defender anyway.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (BrewCityBuck @ Nov 9 2006, 04:02 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Will Al Jefferson ever amount to anything? I mean...come on... </div> Yeah, I would be willing to bet my left thumb that he will be a very good player if he can stay healthy. No doubt about it. He's improved in every aspect of his game from even just last year, he's lost weight, he's worked, he got his ankle fixed, etc. He's going to be a player. He still has star potential, seriously. He has a magnificant post game, especially for his age, he can rebound, he's much quicker than he ever was, he's tough. And someone said he's a terrible defender, I disagree. He isn't a guy to lock you down in the post, but he's excellent with taking charges, he's cut down his fouling/hacking considerably, and he is a good shot blocker. You can book it, barring an abundance of future injuries, Al Jefferson will be a very good player in this league. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (WELCOMEtotheJUNGLE @ Nov 9 2006, 11:52 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>your also forgetting that Gomes is smaller, yet quicker than most big PF's, he can stretch the defense with his mid-range jump shot and can quickly drive past most big PF's...Also Theo's back and Powe will get more playing time. He gets banged on in the post against bigger PF, he's not that great of a defender either. Also, people, everyone is mentioning Powe. I don't even think he's activated, everyones main man Scal is lol.

I can't believe you would think of this as a sign of weakness,
