When Michael Sam first came out I honestly didn't think much of it. I mean its 2014, the world is changing so what the hell BUT........i did say, "God forbid he doesn't get drafted, he'll start blaming it on the fact that he's gay."

Fast forward to PRESENT DAY, Monday May 12 2014 The New York Post......

After the initial joy of being drafted by an NFL team wore off, Michael Sam, pro footballs first openly gay played wondered why he wasn't picked until the 7th round.

While the barrier-breaking lineman was happy to have a job with the St Louis Rams, he couldn't help wondering if NFL teams stayed away in earlier rounds because of him coming out of the closet.

"I should've been picked in the first 3 rounds" said Sam hours after the draft.

The trailingblazing athlete stopped short of accusing teams of overlooking him because of his sexuality. etc etc.

Personally I think he's setting the stage for forcing the Rams to make sure that he makes the team otherwise face the rants that he was cut because he was gay.

    Stay tuned.

The last five SEC Defensive Players of the Year were first round picks, four of them top-10. If Rolando McClain hadn't abruptly retired, all five would still be playing in the NFL. Coming out (knowingly) cost Sam a fortune. If he can't get a roster spot somewhere it'll be obvious why.

It's probably moot; he should be able to get a roster spot based on his ability. Then everyone can relax.

Speeds I agree he should but you can expect a media firestorm if he doesn't.

I'm guessing because he's a head case ego maniac but I still can't believe that Manzel lasted until pick # 22

Now you see, I don't think coming out cost him, after he claimed to have come out to his team mates in college. I think this kid brings with him a propensity to make things about himself and not the team. I know what he says, but those words don't equate to actions. He also brings a media firestorm of distractions, that put him in the 7th round.

He could have not did anything...didn't see Johnny football running around screaming I bang girls....gotten picked, then had a heart to heart with his new employer. Allowing the NFL to craft the story, with professional handlers far more skilled than the chips and dip crowd he had behind him.

What I saw was a kid out to make a political statement, not a professional one like the other SEC defensive players of the year. And now the concern is, will he continue to use what he is over what he can do.

...I've said it before, and I'll say it again, why is there such a pressing need to publicly proclaim one's sexuality?...do I go around flapping my arms and saying, "Hey, look at me, I'm heterosexual" ?....no, and why? Because it should not be a subject that is irrelevantly interjected into something else as if it has some bearing...and also because people do not/should not give a shit about my sexuality one way or another.

It's just more hypocrisy because you're insisting people have to be accepting of something regardless of their own beliefs. I don't care one way or another but people out there have strong religious beliefs when it comes to homosexuality. Isn't it also a problem to tell those people they have to keep quiet about their beliefs? It doesn't make them a homophobe or a hater if they're simply stating what their beliefs are.

...mess, I totally agree, and I seem to recall some people saying the same thing during the "Duck Dynasty" thread fiasco.

No doubt. Even more ironic would have been the Redskins, with the media trying to gin up controversy there. Of course the topper would have been what if Rush Limbaugh's was successful in buying the Rams, lol! Oh, is it hate speech now to call them the Lambies?

I think if it was just one kiss and a hug nobody would've said a word. Fine he got drafted kissed his partner and whatever. When it turned into smashing cake in each other's face and licking off the icing than you have to be kidding me.

Yeah Vic, I think that would fall into the category of an over the top celebration.

What kills me about that whole thing is that originally many said, "Well if it were a heterosexual couple they would have kissed & hugged" Yes that's very likely true but they would have used a little more class & maturity & discretion afterwards. That whole cake thing was completely unnecessary & was only used to send a message.

Hope he has a thick skin. If he's lined up opposite of me...I'm saying to him.."hey sugar you got some icing on your lip...I hope that's icing....". Anything to draw encroachment or a PF.

Ron, you hit the nail perfectly on its head.

Sensationalized Media, a pitiful beacon of decadent times...!

If the Press gave each draftee, equal time, to reveal their sexual preference, then we'd still be drafting the 1st round.

It erks me how, the first round picks, got less press, and camera time, than some Loose End, who chooses to exploit his sexuality to the world. The "kiss' was more news than this boy needed to see...!:smiley-puke:

Or as stated on Sports Radio: 'We've come painfully far since Luci and Desi decided to get separate beds".

ESPN, turned this affair into a Political Media Frenzy! Shame on 24 hour sports. Save the issue for a different media arena. A bastardization of Sports News.

So.....it turns out Ophra's OWL network was filming Sam and his boy toy for a reality show. Looks like the kiss and cake (rick is thinking bukkake) were staged.
