So it seems like the accusation was that the refs (Tony Brothers hahahahah) looked at the replay, saw that a foul should have been called, and said that the ball went off the Clippers. So my question is, do you think the refs should ignore something obvious that they see in the replay, or do they do what they've been doing as long as I remember, and that's call a makeup call. NBA refs are notorious for makeup calls. Honestly, if the rules are that they can only review who the ball went off of, and the ball obviously went off OKC, the ball should go to the Clippers. I can't even say how many times I've seen the refs get it wrong after watching a fucking replay. OBVIOUS replays that show the ball went off a player, and the refs still get it wrong. I don't think I've ever seen such horrible refereeing. This, in my opinion, just proves that the NBA is crooked. No other league seems to have this much trouble with utilizing replay. They're watching a fucking replay from a myriad of angles and they still get it wrong.
It should be like the NFL where coaches can challenge for any reason but if they don't get the challenge they lose a timeout.
It tells me that objective calls are being made subjective through interpretation and internal weighing of fouls versus turnovers. The classic "I won't call a foul but will call the ball off you" situation is being thrown for a loop by instant replay. But it's not replay itself that fucking things up: it's that they aren't allowed to make the right call because they saw a replay. Give coaches challenges, and give refs the ability to review a play and make exactly the right call, even if it means totally changing the genre of the call. I believe most refs are just incompetent, not actively evil. So let them simulate competence with reviews. Oh, and call technicals on any player who makes the "review it" gesture to a ref. Fuck that shit.
I agree, but I would also say that they should hire refs that are specifically trained in video reviews. I like having coach challenges though.
In this instance MM is correct. The refs did actually make the right call, but their justification was wrong. Screwy I know. The rule states that if the opposing player slaps the hand of the offensive player causing the ball to go out, than regardless of who touched it last the possession stays with said offense.
It still seems up for interpretation if the ball has to also bounce off another body part to go out. Carlos, replay has fucked us on exactly this situation and where was the fucking rules interpretation OKC got then?
I think everyone agrees this is a great idea! Maybe the refs could have a rule like cops have different classes of driving violations on why they can and cannot pull you over. A ref can't call for a replay to check if there was or was not a foul, but if they are watching a replay for say an out of bounds play, and notice there was in fact a foul, they can tack that on.
