As a condition of the Rangers acquisition of Marty St. Louis, the Rangers will send their 2014 First Round pick to Tampa Bay because they advanced to the Eastern Conference final.

Had the Rangers not advanced to the Eastern Conference Final they would have sent their 2014 second round pick to Tampa Bay. As part of the deal Tampa Bay already owns the Rangers 2015 First Round pick.

The Rangers will get a 2015 second round pick if Callahan stays in Tampa Bay.

This is the middle of a three-year stretch where the Rangers, pending a trade, won’t pick in the first round.

2013: To Columbus | Rick Nash trade
2014: To Tampa Bay | Marty St. Louis trade
2015: To Tampa Bay | Marty St. Louis trade

The Rangers last first round pick was Brady Skjei in 2012.

Hockey’s Future ranks the Rangers system 23rd in the NHL but up from 27th in their last rankings.

The top five prospects listed are Danny Kristo, JT Miller, Jesper Fast, Anthony Duclair and Pavel Buchnevich.

Only one of those players, Miller, was a first round pick
