Don't the favored teams usually win? I mean, only two teams that were lower than the #3 seed have ever won a championship, right? A #1 seed wins significantly more than half the time.

The favored seeds do usually win, but it is unusual for the Final Four, so to speak, to be the #1 and #2 seeds (just like in college it's unusual for all #1's to make the Final Four). No conspiracy, no Obama, just surprising since so many series were so competitive not to see any upsets in Round 2.
