Tyler Ennis averaged 12.9 points and 3.4 assists as a freshman for Syracuse. Syracuse point guard Tyler Ennis met with the Chicago Bulls on Thursday and came away optimistic about his chances of possibly playing alongside Derrick Rose in the future. Tyler Ennis averaged 12.9 points and 3.4 assists as a freshman for Syracuse. "I know they always have a lot of point guards on the roster," Ennis said at Friday's NBA draft combine. "Whether that's this year when they have three with Derrick Rose getting hurt, so I know they're not against it. I can say that. Whether they're moving forward and that's something they want to do (I don't know), but that's something they've done in the past. They've been a team that's competed for a championship year in, year out so I don't see why they'd go away from it." "I think I was able to ask them a few questions about (the possibility of playing with Rose)," Ennis said. "And I think going forward, the success in the playoffs of teams going with two guards is kind of going to open people's eyes and I think more teams going forward are going to do that. I don't know if the Bulls are one of those teams, but I've seen Augustin and Hinrich play at the same time at points throughout this year. And I think with me and Derrick Rose on the floor together you wouldn't have any offensive struggles. And I think we're both able to guard our positions. And I think we'd be able to play together." OK, so rather than pick up a mini-PG from the FA pool, we draft one? All things considered, I'd rather use that pick for something larger.
Seriously, how about we draft a guy who's got a big ceiling and low floor, regardless of position? It would be a really tough situation to have two outstanding PGs or PFs or whatever.
I'm not against drafting a PG with our pick if they're BPA, and there's a plausible chance that a guy like Ennis will be if he's there at 19. (Maybe 16). Historically the backup PG has been very important for the team since Thibs took over, and maybe management doesn't think it'll be able to pull a rabbit out of its hat like it did with DJ and Nate. That said, none of the PG prospects excite me too much. Ennis looks solid but unspectacular. Payton has absolutely no jumpshot, so it's hard to see how he'd fit on our team even if I like the rest of his game. Napier I think will be effective, but he looks like he's going to be a DJ/John Lucas type......something that's really easily found in FA.
Perceived sarcasm aside if Thibs can get Jimmer on board with D and get his confidence back on O he'd be fine as a plug in guard. I would rather focus on a scoring 3 and a Booze replacement.
None of the PGs who figure to be around in the middle of the first round look like sure-fire starters much less stars. As for Jimmer, I'd like to see what he could do given a real role. It may turn out that Fredette can't cut it in the league, but he can certainly get his own shot and is fearless.
I don't see how Jimmer could be any worse than JLIII or Nate. He is a free agent, though. Watch him sign with the.Heat and kick ass.
Probably not. He made $2.4M last year, though we only paid him $240K off the waiver wire. If the Bulls are really set on getting way under the cap to sign a FA, they'll renounce any rights to him, right?
I think it's the same situation as it is with Augustin. Both players were picked up off the waiver wire so the Bulls don't have any rights, baby bird or otherwise. I think the Bulls will have them for that center the franchise signed from the Rockets two years from now because they signed him for a game this season, as well as next season.
The opportunity and real cost of drafting a PG vs. signing Jimmer is pretty obvious. Jimmer probably costs less than a 16th pick, and you can use the pick on another position. Who would you rather have: Jimmer or Marquis Teague? Can't the bulls offer 120% of last year's salary, even over the cap? Is that a cap hold then? If so, it seems they'd have to renounce those rights to remove the hold.
I read a recent mock this morning, I dont remember where that had Napier being picked by us at #19. He is just 6-1 and that is with shoes. IMO we need a taller pg.
Someone or preferably someone(s) needs to get the basketball through the rim and down the net with frequency and consistancy. 1 2 3 4 5 Don't care where it comes from. Draft FA D League Trade. Don't care. It just gots to be done
To get back to the original point of the thread..... Is Ennis the first guy the team brought in for a workout? If so, I'd say there's a small but legitimate chance this signals the team is serious about drafting him. From what I gather about the Bulls, their MO is to key in on a few key guys they like at their draft slot and put them through the full grist mill of their evaluation process. I believe this is what happened with Snell last year. They pegged him from the beginning with their pick and the day teams were eligible to conduct draft workouts Gar and his Entourage showed up to put Snell through a variety of tests. Of course it could just be an issue of scheduling and convenience so it may not be anything of importance, but it might be important to keep in mind when the draft draws nearer.
This sounds right and I doubt the Bulls are the only team that does it. As I recall, the Bulls did not put Marquis Teague through the wringer because they didn't think he'd be there when they picked. Just hope they're a little more careful this time if they get surprised.
To be fair, I don't think the Teague pick was a bad one with the information everyone had at the time the pick was made. With the 28th pick in a crappy draft Teague had a lot to like about him. A blue-chip 5 star high school recruit with all the physical tools who was the starting PG for the national champions. Not too shabby considering their other options. It's true the Bulls didn't bring him in, but that means it's equally true that none of the guys they DID workout were impressive enough to compel them despite their limited information on Marquis. It's true that some guys taken after him look like they'll stay in the league, but I don't see anyone who's playing above replacement level.
Well we have a pg who is 6'4", right? I'd be quite disappointed if the Bulls pick a g at 16 or higher. Best player available is great in theory but if Rose doesn't make it back this franchise has bigger problems. The Bulls are pretty much capped out and have limited opportunities to get better. I'd really like to see them draft a big and a wing.
