It's racist. He didn't say a white kid in a hoodie, he said a black kid. I don't think he's a terrible guy for admitting his own flaws, but let's not gloss over what he said.
AS A PRIVILEGED MINORITY, I CANNOT SPEAK OR POST IN THIS THREAD. THEREFORE I WILL SIT IN THE CORNER AND WALLOW IN MY PRIVILEGE.
No, you must get on your soapbox and berate all of the Whites in this forum for not understanding how they need to check their own privilege!
Dude, its the same shit when whites go into a store owned by Chinese, or Hispanics go into a store owned by Black; fuck just insert 2 different colors of people at any given time and you will have people eye-balling each other. People don't trust other people, and people have a harder time trusting people of different cultures/races. It's how it is for ALL. Now spare me the bullshit.
So you're saying that if I go down to my local Asian market and walk around the aisles with my hands in my pockets, I'll gain an understanding of what it's like to be mistrusted because of my skin color?
It most likely can happen. About the same chance as what he's constantly claiming. Just like if a white person were to go into a predominantly black neighborhood store/bar/establishment. They would certainly be getting some 'looks'. This whole 'privilege' shit needs to go.
Yes, you're exactly right! One of the worst cases of racism I witnessed directed at my father was at a Chinese restaurant. Two white guys came up to my mother and asked her why she was with some spick and what a terrible example she was providing to her son (me) by dating a wet back. They went on to tell her that she should date her own race and dump the Mexican. This entire time I thought it was just two drunk racist white dudes but now I know it was because we were in a Chinese restaurant.
There's a local Chinese place that i get delivery from. The first time i ordered there, the guy bowed to me when i gave him a nice tip, none of the delivery guys have bowed to me since. I never knew i was being a victim of racial repression until i read this post.
WHEN I BOUGHT SOME TIC TACS FROM THE BLACK SUPERMARKET, THE CASHIER STARTED BREAKDANCING. I DIDN'T TIP HIM.
Not at all. What I'm saying is that you (if you're white) wouldn't be followed around and treated like you want to steal. How hard is that to understand?
I understand that it would be incredibly frustrating. This is meant as a real question and not a smart ass question. What are the crime statistics for robbery? Maybe that has something to do with it?
Instead of looking up those statistics, look up the poverty statistics and you will see why crime is where it is. Edit: I also think it's a bull argument to talk about crime rates and racism in the same breath.
