I don't know the details, but I heard this. We traded a few minor league pitchers, including Humberto Sanchez. This will help the offense, but dang, Sheff is old now. We really don't need corner outfield help, but maybe DH help.

I do not think it is that great for Detroit as seeing Sanchez is one of the greatest prospects out there.

haha you guys got Sheffield...this was a pretty bad deal for the Tigers. Great Deal for the Yankees, they got some very nice prospects including Sanchez. I'm sure Sheffield is happy about joining Detroit, but Sheffield is nothing but trouble and even though I see him putting up some decent numbers..I don't think he is going to have as big an impact when playing as he did in years past.

Tigers needed some more firepower, and they got Sheffield. I'm not dissapointed with the deal, but he isn't the difference maker he was in LA and Atlanta. This takes Detroit out of the Barry Bonds market.

He's had a dropoff in BA, but his RBI and HR's have been great save last year. The three years before that, he was stellar. Also, he is great after changing teams, for whatever reason.

We can throw Sheff in as a DH and put some more runs on the board for our pitching staff (who I see us adding a major addition to in the offseason)As for trading away a young prospect; Verlander, Minor, Bonderman and Zumaya are all very young and going to be the future of the Tigers pitching staff.

If sheffield can stay on the field, this tiger team has to be the favorite..

They traded Jaret Wright to the Baltimore Orioles. The Yankees finally have a good young core with a decent farm system. Melke Cabrera, Cheng Ming Wang, Robinson Cano, etc.

The Yankees arent rebuilding. They are still old for the most part. How many starters do they have under 32? 2 or 3?

Their budget is far greater than any other team in any league, so what you're saying really has nothing to do with it. Regardless of whether or not they have older players still, they are trading many players to grab prospects from other teams. Trading Wright to someone in your own division is pretty ballsy, only the Yankees can get away with that.

    Re: Tigers Acquire Sheffield!

Overall, this is a good move for the Tigers. All the Yankees fans are saying that he is clubhouse cancer are pretty much wrong. When you ask the guys he has played with, they all say that hes a nice guy. He just didnt feel that he was appreciated in New York. It is pretty much garuneed that he is going to be happy as his contract states that he will not play 1B. The whole knock on the Tigers was their defense and their lack of power hitting. Yes, we were top 10 in HR's this year, but there wasnt really one guy that stuck out. We now have that for one or two more years (depending on how much longer Sheffield is effective). Sure, Sanchez was a great prospect, but as one poster said before, the Tigers are filled with young pitching. To be able to use that as a tool to make yourselves even more of a contender for next year is just a sign of a good GM. A lot of people say that we could have gotten a little more for Sanchez. But he just had surgury this year and his future is pretty much unknown. Plus (if any of you are real Tigers fans and know about our minor league system) Sanchez tore it up in AA, but his move to AAA wasnt exactly a smooth one. It just seemed like he didnt have that pop and semi-buckled under the pressure. As far as our defense goes, a lot of our errors were throwing errors, that can be sured up by good coaching. Leyland is one of the best in the game and has all off-season to sure that up. Im not too worried about it.
