Via twitter, I guess they take hitting an official pretty seriously. No word on whether the official manhandling him for no effing reason has any bearing on the ruling:

    Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Likely won't get word until morning, but sense Dan Carcillo may be in for a long suspension. 10 or 20 games according to rule 40.3 or 40.2

    Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
If Carcillo receives 20 gms, officials would have deemed he intended to injure. 10 gms is applied when there is no intent. Serious situation

You simply can not shove an official, no matter if the ref initiates or not

That's ridiculous. 1 or 2 games at the most. Dreger is exaggerating, I don't care what the rule says.

The linesman was out of line for what he did, but that does NOT excuse Carcillo for what he did. The rules are the rules, and he should be suspended for many games if that is the rule. Pro sports leagues lose credibility if their players start putting hands on officials. Cannot have it.

And this is why Carcillo cannot be trusted and why he moves around from team to team. You cannot count on him, and big picture we got lucky he was tossed last night. Who knows how many penalties he would have taken.

Brassard will be back, I fully believe they sat him last night to give him a few extra days to get as close as possible to 100%. It will be 8 days since he last played a game when he plays in game 4 Sunday night. He should be nice and rested and ready to go. And good for us, because I like Moore, but he is a 4th line guy and you see that when he plays in the top 9 for more than a spurt here or there.

Anyway, Carcillo will get what he deserves, and rightfully so.

The charging call was ridiculous, Carcillo was slowing down and shoved Prust it wasn't even a hard hit. I could see him being heated about it but the contact with the line judge was over the line and warrants a few game suspension. Losing Carcillo does no harm against the Habs, Miller is a better option anyway.

Agree 100% panzer. The penalty was a bad call, but you simply cannot react that way, and that's why Carcillo is who he is. And losing Carcillo is no great loss anyway, so we move on from him.

Carcillo might be the reason they got past the Flyers. I wouldn't say he is a bad option at all. If anything he could have scored last night if he didn't get tossed. He got a little carries away but let's not forget that it all happened because no call on the Prust hit, BS call on Carcillo, and the linesman tried
To manhandle him. Referees sucked all night last night

Al is right on. Just cannot do that to an official. Nothing else to discuss. Us losing Carcillo will have ZERO impact on whether or not we beat Montreal.

Yea he shouldn't have done that. Still think the official is a dumbass because of the reasons above. It's too bad becauE the 4th line had some jump last night and he's been playing well. Don't think he deserves 10-20 games. That's excessive

If the Refs make the call on prust for a blatant interference call NONE of this transpires. The officiating to start that game was appalling and shameful. If im Carcillo i too am trying to get a linesman whom just slammed me into the boards for no damn reason. These four shouldnt be allowed to call a game the remainder of the playoffs.

Let's stop with the no reason...lets remember he was supposed to be in the penalty box for the intial penalty. We dont know was said between the linesmen and the player.

The refs did a poor job early missing calls I agree. And you can argue the Carcillo thing never should have happened if the refs deal with Prust. BUT that still doesn't excuse Carcillo for doing what he did.

And while 10-20 games is over the top, if it is a black and white rule, we have to deal with it. I just wonder how many playoff games = 10-20 regular season games? My guess is gone at least 5 playoff games if 10 is the #.

Heres a question, the refs let the game get out of hand quickly. Are they ever going to be held accountable? No, just like every other sport they make terrible decisions and are allowed to continue to work, it's beyond time referees are held to the fire. we almost had our #1(albeit not a #1) center get taken out lastnight, and the ref behind the play was watching and did nothing, which then led to an escalation that THEY allowed to happen. What carcillo did isnt right, but a when you're standing by yourself watching a fight and a linesman flys over and pushes you into the boards and wrestles with you, you have a right to defend yourself, specially with the way they allowed the game to unfold to the point. Someone other then the players need to held to the fire on this poor excuse of officiating.

how do you know the referees aren't held accountable? how do you know it doesn't affect their future game assignments? How do you know if they aren't fined?
    we don't.

You have some good points Lundy. I don't disagree with you on a lot of what you said.

If they said he's out the remainder of the series i think that would be plenty fair.
