<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Source: Closer To 100% Than 50% In NBA Have Guns To Protect Themselves 10th November, 2006 - 11:00 am Boston Globe - Paul Pierce, Vince Carter of the NBA, Marvin Harrison, Edgerinn James and Daunte Culpepper of the NFL and Carl Pavano of the MLB are just some of the most notable professional athletes who have registered guns, according to players and a Boston Globe review of concealed weapon permits. "I would say about 90 percent of players in the league have guns to protect themselves," said New England Patriots receiver Jabar Gaffney, who holds a Texas license to carry a concealed weapon. In the NBA, the figure "is closer to 100 percent than it is to 50 [percent]," said a team official who requested anonymity. Pierce purchased a firearm shortly after he was nearly fatally stabbed in the Theater District of Boston. [READ]</div> Yikes.... [IMG]

It said closer to 100% than 50%. That hardly means that all NBA players have fire arms. I guess they need them for protection. Alot of psychos out there.

So one player in the NFL and one anonymous team official in the NBA said what they personally feel is true, IN STATISTICAL FORM.Wow, that's truly accurate there. [IMG]

When I first read that I thought of Mike Dunleavy carrying a gun. He probably uses nerf guns.

The Shaq Attack-If you are man enough to carry a 20mm Gatling Gun.....The Dunleavy Special....fires harmless nerf pellets. The Marbury...A special $12.95 model for low income kids. I'm hardly a 2nd Amendment advocate, but as long as they have a permit, I fail to see how this is a big deal.

Just because they own guns doesn't mean they're walking down the street with them in their waste and slapping hookers and shooting taxi drivers like in Grand Theft Auto. If I owned a house that costs as much money as houses professional athletes own, I think I would want a gun in the house too. I don't get why this is a big deal or why the Boston Globe thinks this is newsworthy.
