Dreger tweeted that he had a steel plate put in the stabalize his fractured jaw. Unclear on whether he plays
That was me. A slight fracture requiring a CT Scan to notice is not going to require your jaw being wired shut. That's usually for much serious multiple location fractures and complete breaks of the jaw. Who knows whether he plays or not.
1PM: Alain Vigneault’s comments on Stepan were: Q. Do you have a better idea today about the timeframe for Stepan? Do you have any update on him? COACH VIGNEAULT: I don’t have an update as far as time. He’s in the hospital right now recovering from surgery, so that’s all I’ve got. Q. Are you calling it day-to-day? Is the name for it day-to-day, indefinitely, do you have a name at all for it? COACH VIGNEAULT: Call it whatever you want. Q. Just for point of clarity, is there any chance Stepan plays tomorrow, or is he ruled out? COACH VIGNEAULT: He’s at the hospital right now recovering from surgery, so I would say unlikely. 12:16PM: Stepan is still at the hospital recovering from surgery and is unlikely to play tomorrow. (Craig Custace) 11:27AM: Derek Stepan had a plate inserted to stabilize his fractured jaw. (Darren Dreger) It’s unclear at this moment whether Stepan will be able to play. (Dreger) John Giannone tweets “Hockey players have insane pain threshold. For D.Stepan, it’ll be about that plus nutrition/hydration intake in surgically repaired jaw. TBD”
If I were a betting man I'd say no shot he plays tomorrow, then we'll see after that. If we win tomorrow and take a 3-1 series lead, it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't play in game 5 either. Then maybe he comes back game 6 if we lose game 5. We'll see.
Right, which puts him back right around game 6. That would be 6 days from surgery. I think that is the best bet for him to come back. All speculation, but if I were to bet I'd bet game 6.
Im confident the Rangers could beat the Habs without Stepan. But if the team makes it to the Stanley Cup it wil be tough to beat the Hawks or Kings without Stepan. But i think he'll come back. Step is probably dying the get back on the ice.
I think Stepans injury qualifies as the infamous hockey upper body injury. :big laugh: However, if Stepan ever miraculously skated onto that garden ice tmo night we are talking willis reed territory here.
i saw 31 standing in front of the NHL disciplinary office petitioning Prust's suspension, "TOO HARSH" it stated!!
I was at that game. Quite depressing from a Yankee fan's perspective. Still can't believe Torre never bunted once in the game.
Yep. That and not taking the team off the field with the friggin midges all over joba at cleveland and never retaliating against boston hitters after boston pitchers used contunuously our best players as target practice.
The bugs were the final nail in coffin when it came to Torre's tenure. There's no way you leave your team on the field with that going on. What was the league going to do? Demand they play under those absurd conditions? Torre still had a lot of equity to play off of in 2004 and even though Yankee fans had to admit it if Rivera does his job that series is over.
10:47AM Darren Dreger tweets “Very unlikely Stepan plays tonight. Released from hospital last night. Hasn’t skated in 2 days. Will need time to adjust to full shield, etc” 10:33AMChris Kreider is on the ice at the Rangers morning skate today. (Rangers) Derek Stepan is not on the ice though he was released from the hospital last night. (Darren Dreger)
Maybe gives you some hope that Stepan can be back game 5, or worst case game 6 I would think (I would say game 6 if we win tonight). So that is some positive news. Again, let's remember we are losing Stepan tonight, but adding Brassard who hasn't played all series really, so in theory it is not as much of a huge loss as you would think since we haven't had Brassard.
I think it was reasonable to assume Stepan wasn't going to be playing tonight. I'm sure is still very sore and swollen.
