http://articles.chicagotribune.com/..._tom-thibodeau-knicks-and-rockets-bulls-coach And here's management destroying his trade value: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/2763...carlos-boozer-exit-imminent.html#.U4FPqtq9KSM And here's Taj doing management's job: http://nba.si.com/2014/05/24/chicago-bulls-taj-gibson-starter-carlos-boozer-out/
Taj was +2. DJ was +9. Jimmy was +8. Dunleavy was +6, Noah was +5. Boozer was -3, Kirk -2. Boozer played less than Taj, outscored and out rebounded him. He also had more assists. And steals (believe it or not). Boozer didn't get to play with DJ in Q2. Like I said, he's going to be great for the Spurs. What cap challenged team wouldn't want a 18/10 per 36 guy for $1M, or whatever lowball price they can get him for?
To put your +/- numbers in perspective, it may help to know that, overall, the Bulls were +2.0 (ORtg of 102.5 and DRtg of 100.5). Unless you're the only one who knows how truly good Boozer is, a lowball offer won't be good enough.
Good for 28th best and 2nd best, respectively. Big foam finger #28. Whatever offer Boozer gets is still going to make the Chairman grumpy.
We do agree that on/off is a ridiculous measure, right? ON with Kirk, Snell, Nazr, and Mike James is going to be a drag to your ON rating. OFF with LeBron, Melo, Durant, and Howard on the court is going to kill your OFF rating, too.
No, we don't agree. I don't believe that any of the popular stats are ridiculous on their face. The people who use the measures in order to support their own narratives rather than to get at the truth are almost always ridiculous. Same for those who believe that any single measure is in some way definitive. There's just no substitute for actually knowing what you're talking about.
The team that went to the ECF. Rose was ON/OFF +2.7 The team was ORtg - DRtg was +8. The team actually outscored opponents by 7.3 on average. Rose's ORtg - DRtg was +10 Big foam finger #10 Every time. Noah was -4.4 ON/OFF. Omer was the only guy better than +2.7 (Lu, Omer, and Rose were the only 3 above 1.2). Many of the players were minus: Boozer, Noah, Korver, Bogans, Kurt Thomas, CJ Watson. Yet we won 62 games.
What "another player" is he paying $15M to? You still have to think of how the P&L works. If you spend $10M and make $10M in profit, great. If you spend $20M and make $20M in profit, even better. So spend the $20M. The Chairman will spend the "$20M", but only if it makes his profit increase.
And here you have it... Improved P&L. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/bask...ing-scoring-help-at-forward.html#.U4UDvBant4F The Bulls will try to go big. If it doesn’t happen, they could use the money from Boozer’s contract to add depth with a player such as Shawn Marion or Paul Pierce. ShawnMarion#1 PaulPierce#1 Over the top!
Would love for the Warriors to trade the Iguodala TPE for Taj Gibson. Boozer on an amnesty pickup sounds decent too.
Looking at the top FAs this summer: http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/9947573/nba-free-agents-2014-2015 Deng Blatche Hawes Nowitzki Greg Munroe (Restricted) Lance Stephenson Evan Turner (Restricted) D Collison Pau Gasol Zach Randolph Bosh/Wade/LeBron (if they ETO) Melo I Thomas Gay (if he ETO) Duncan Diaw Lowry Ariza Gortat In no particular order. Where would Boozer be on that list, if amnestied? He's only going to the highest bidder off the waiver wire.
He's pretty low on that list. Its a solid list though. Lots of better players who are older, and then lots of similarly productive players who get the edge because they're younger.
