I'll even go a step further. IIRC, Boobie Gibson was the PG for the Cavs...

Well, Stockton got at least six wins in the finals so at least he's better than Boobie.

Boston sends Rondo and #6 to the Cavs and the Cavs send #1 and filler to Boston. Then the Celtics turn around and deal that #1 to Portland with filler for Aldridge. Is that to far fetched?

Russell Westbrook has yet to win a title, too. Good point!

If the Cavs could convince Deng to stay by trading away some of their troublemakers (they already got rid of their lame coach), then a Aldridge-Irving-Deng core would be very enticing if I were a Cavs fan and a playoff team in the East for sure.

Similarly, a Lillard (1990)-Batum (1988)-Wiggins (1995) core is enticing as a Blazers fan, especially as 2 of them would be on their rookie contracts. We'd be good for a very, very long time.

When you learn that everything you think of in terms of trades is too far fetched.... I think that answers it.

Enticing so we can return to mediocrity? Here's what an NBA team scout said of Wiggins:

Those are the most positive 'weaknesses' I think I've ever seen for a player. Basically, he can't control the hype, and his FT shooting is under 70%.

...and that's it. What a lock that guy was to be an MVP. Comparing Wiggins to James is just so unfair to Wiggins. I think Wiggins will have a nice Rudy Gay career, and possibly become Paul George if he learns how to shoot.

Pair LMA with Deng and you'll see two guys taking shots one step in from the 3 pt line.

Why not just convince Deng to sign with Portland as a FA? An LMA, Deng, Batum, Lopez, Lillard core is more inticing....

I wasn't comparing the two at all. I was making the point that there's a critic for everyone, even LBJ. In fact, he has cited his critics as his motivation. So, one scouts criticism doesn't particularly faze me.

Trades like this would happen around the draft, before the FA period.

Actually no. If the Blazers were to trade Aldridge, he's a proven asset in the NBA. Where as a Draft pick is a rookie and unproven. Could have injuries like oden did. To get an proven asset like Aldridge or Love a team must give up more than just picks. four players is a little homerish. but including 1 piece in it with the pick isn't out of the ball park. Especially being this thread was called "if the cavs call tomorrow" Not "if the Blazers offered Aldridge" that plays a factor in it as well.

Offering the #1 pick in a "supposedly deep draft" does not pull superstars from teams.
Unless rebuild mode, player wants out, or inability to stay on court/play through injuries.

This is a very good point. Based on the thread title (which essentially insists that we're playing in fantasyland), the homer posts make sense. "If they called tomorrow, I would ask for..."

This is a deep draft but the #1 pick isnt in the same class prospect wise as Oden, Durant, LBJ, or Davis was.

Joel Embiid very well could be. I think people are just worried about his health especially here in the Portland area. Being that we haven't had good luck with drafting centers. You don't get compared to greats like Tim Duncan/Akeem Olajuwon for nothing.

Joel could be amazing but that still doesnt mean he is viewed as those I mentioned. All 4 werent just viewed as star players but as sure fire superstars and that was true for some of these prospects before they played their college ball and now the general concensus has changed.
