What do you do when you are the best player in everything on your team (shooter, ball handler, passer, defender, etc.) and your coach makes you play a position that rarely ever gets the ball based off of your plays?I am having a really hard time with this right now. I am getting pretty mad because I am the best player in everything on my team, but my coach makes me play the Small Forward instead of the Shooting Guard/Point Guard just because of my height. It sucks because next year I will be a PG and SG, and he knows it, but is still making me play the SF position, despite us having a lot of people taller than me who could play the position better.
So you're the best at your team in everything, yet there are
QUOTE

a lot of people taller than me who could play the position better.
?Hmm... If you're better at everything, you should be able to play all the positions. You should play C with blocking abilities, PF with your big man style, SF for versatility, SG for scoring options and PG for finding players wide open. However, you stated there are people who can play that position better than you can. I'm assuming people in your statement defines "teammates" and position defines "SF".
Yeah, what I meant was, there are plenty of people taller than me who are better suited to be playing the SF position rather than me. I should be playing at a guard spot.

In my experience everyone wants to play guard. My advice? Except your role, work on your game . Good things will happen.

I have the best skills in almost everything on the team. But when I say defense, I mean perimeter defense...not in the paint D. The point is, I am most valuable and able to play my best at the PG/SG spot, rather than the SF spot where our plays don't allow me to receive the ball too much.
^^^Okay, now I fully understand. If I was in your shoes, I'd do as Clangus said.
I was in a very similar situation to you back in 8th grade. I was the best all around player on team, but was undersized and had more guard-like skills than forward/center. They put me at the foward position, despite me being by far the best ballhandler, playmaker and scorer. What did I do? I forced them to get me the ball by working hard to get open where I wanted the ball, and made plays from there. Basically I became somewhat of a point-forward.

I was also the best shot blocker and rebounder. but I didn't forget about my perimiter game. I kind of became a kg type player.it's all about attitude. sometimes I would score alot, other times almost nothing. but I always grabbed the boards and I always blocked shots no matter what, cause I believed we could win that way.

I am not the best at shot blocking, but other than that, I am better than everyone else on the team. My coach just has the set of plays where the ball really does not get passed to me often. Not the coaches fault (which I realized after my practice today), but the other players fault who think they can drive in the ball through really tall big guys. But anyways, my problem was solved at practice today, so this thread really doesn't need to be here anymore.
