New approach Oregon has been gathering signatures needed to put their measure on the upcoming ballots.

    http://newapproachoregon.com/may-25-2014/

In 2012 a different legalization initiative lost at a margin of 53-47%. That initiative was worded very poorly, and did not do a very good job of defining the regulation of marijuana.

This new measure proposed by New approach Oregon is much more specific and polls in April show an increased percentage of Oregonians who support it.

    http://www.theweedblog.com/opb-poll-majority-of-oregonians-want-to-legalize-marijuana/

With Oregon being one of the long time forerunners in the medical use, and de-criminalization of marijuana it might come as no surprise that 54% showed support while only 38% opposed.

Granted the sample size in that poll is too small to be sure, it certainly gives the perception that Oregon is poised to be he 3rd state to legalize the adult use of marijuana.

I'm pretty sure it's already legal.

Just about everyone I know has been smoking it in varying amounts and frequencies for 40-50 years now. If it were illegal they surely could not have led the remarkably successful lives they've lived.

I am absolutely not pro drug. However, legalizing marijuana makes so much more sense than not, it's comical. The income for the state, the jobs it creates, the crime it cuts down.

Random Fact: More people are killed by peanuts than marijuana per year.

Odd logic. Alcohol is legal, yet it's ruined many "successful" lives.

While I don't advocate legal use of weed, I have to agree with y'all that alcohol is more directly dangerous. It's never made sense to me one was and the other not legal.

Precisely. Those are the reasons that will ultimately lead to marijuana being legal on a federal level. That day is still a ways a way though. The government just needs to get a taste of how the city/state economy does after they legalize marijuana.

Colorado recorded something like 7 mil in the first 3 months.

I can't say I total agree with that idea. Some people can handle alcohol, some not well at all.
Those that do not damn near always come from the intuitive character types.

Never knew of a person that was a better engineer or developer from smoking weed. I did know a few that alcohol prevented from being adequate.

If I had my preference, it would not be illegal to have or smoke weed, the penalty for selling it would be worst. Sell it to a kid and they throw away the key.

That joke would make sense if weed killed people or contributed to people killing others

A college student visiting Denver jumped to his death from a hotel balcony after eating marijuana-infused cookies

In 2011, 226 children were killed in drunk driving crashes. Of those, 122 (54% percent) were riding with the drunk driver

Will be interesting to study the stats after a few years in Colorado on how many automobile deaths involved a person high on marijuana

It won't go up as much as you are probably thinking. The number of pot smokers would logically have to go up in order for that to happen, which it hasn't by much.

    Really? What am I thinking?

I don't think the # of pot smokers have to go up. I think with easy access, higher potency, oils and edibles available over the counter . . . it will be really easy for over consumption and driving.

It may be easy now, but will be even easier once legal.

You assume making cocaine legal will lead to death or people killing others . . . why?

I think pot smoking is like drinking alcohol. If you do it on your off time it won't really affect your job. If you start doing it before or while on the job, you will not be doing your job better.

    Maybe if you are a stripper . . .

A lot of people are successful in the art industry when they are heavy mj smokers. A lot of writers as well, pretty much jobs that require creativity and have loose(r) timestraints.
