I was just thinking about it, and I was wondering does anyone else here think that Chris Paul could actually end up being in the MVP race this season. He's right now averaging 21ppg and 10.5 appg on a pretty damn impressive 52% from the field. His defense has looked good so far and he is still filling up the stat sheet for a 6'0 PG. I think if New Orleans can make it into the playoffs he could have a nice shot at it.
IF New Orleans gets 50 wins. WE saw what happened to Kobe last season since they won only 45 games and they still didn't give him credit. He had a young and raw team and still made the playoffs with them. But Paul could be in the race because those stats are insane better than last years MVP. But its only been what 5 or 6 games there is still alot of time.
No way. I still dont think the Hornets finish above a 6th, or 7th seed in the West. Chris won't provide enough scoring to win it. He'll average 17-18 at best. And let's face it - he's not Steve Nash, so I think he'd have to also score alot to get it.Look at some others who are more deserving..Lebron JamesKobe BryantDirk NowitzkiKG might have a shot againTim DuncanDwyane Wade (with Shaq falling off a bit)Elton BrandHell, even Steve Nash probably has a better shot at it than Paul. So, that's why I think he'll never get it
Chris Paul is much more deservant than most of those players you listed cb4. Paul is CARRYING his team this season, that's more that can be sadi of just about any player on that list. the only one who I'd say is beating him right now is lebron. if you'd watch chris paul play, you'd know he's playing like an mvp. it's just incredible.
Youve got to be kidding me. All of those guys are better players than Paul. Youre basing that off of the first 4-5 games of the season. Do you actually think the Hornets will do this well throughout the whole season? No..
just because they're better players means they are automatically higher candidates for MVP? is that why steve nash won two in a row? give me a break.chris paul is playing like an mvp. I know new orleans can't keep it up all year, but they have a very legit shot of making the playoffs, on HIS shoulders.Kobe Bryant- he's not scoring NEARLY as much and his teammates are all doing awesome.Dwyane Wade- Team's not playing up to standards, and they have a boatload of talent to begin with.Steve Nash- already won two in a row, and phoenix is starting off very slow.dirk nowitzki- is not playing especially well, and his team is playing horrible.Lebron- is playing well and team is doing pretty good.Elton Brand- Is NOT playing like an mvp at all. he's barely even getting touches. somewhere around 15/10, you think those are mvp numbers?Tim Duncan is doing okay, but not up to MVP standards.KG isn't playing especially well, and his team won't make the playoffs.
There are 82 games in a season, not 4-5. Dont tell me about how they are doing as of now, or how their team's doing. We're like 1/19 through the season. There is alot of basketball to be played. Do you honeslty expect the Jazz to be the 1st seed, and the Mavs and Suns to miss the playoffs? Come on man..It's way too early.I think the best way of determing this is through expectations, not hown they/their team is doing through 4 or 5 games..
He could, but he nedds to cut down on his turnovers and his team needs to make the playoffs in a high spot, like at least 6th.

Well definitely CP3 has been playing extraordinary, and his stats and team record is proof of that. He's probably going to lead them to a probably playoff birth imo.Although I don't know if he can keep this up. My skepicism could be because of his youth or because it's so early... so you never know. He is playing at an elite-calibur and if he can keep it up I wouldnt be shocked to see him win it.

I just used them as examples to the fact that the first 5 games dont translate into the entire season. I dont care if Chris Paul is playing like an MVP. It is not a 5 game season, it's an 82 game season! It doesn't matter what's happened in the first 5 games. Those other guys will pick it up, and they will be in the consideration, alot of them more so than Chris.BTW: If Kobe Bryant can have that type of year, and lead his Lakers to the 6th seed, and still not get MVP, then what are Paul's chances? Do you guys even see them getting higher than a 6th or 7th seed? Obviously Paul is not in the same breath of Kobe. And dont say that Paul is leading his team really well...Dont use that crap. Last year's lakers without Kobe<<<<<<<this year's Hornets without Chris Paul..
There's a difference in what happened to Kobe and what may or maynot happen to Paul if NO makes the playoffs. There were actually a handful of voters who left Kobe off of their ballot last year, presumably only because of their personal feeling about him off the court. Now unless a lot of these sportswriters are NC State fans, I don't think they'll let Paul's personality bother them all that much...

I know the damn season is 82 games. I'm saying Chris Paul is playing like a top five player in the league, and it's not like the other guys are in a slump.okay, the lakers got the 7th seed, and kobe just had a great scoring year. He wasn't getting almost 21/11. those would be nash-like numbers. you know, the two time mvp nash? anyways, the league doesn't look at the mvp like that, or kobe obviously would've won the award last year. They like the offensive playmakers that make their teammates better, and that's exactly what chris paul does. the only difference between him and nash is that paul is a good defender.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Fouled Out @ Nov 11 2006, 05:25 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>There's a difference in what happened to Kobe and what may or maynot happen to Paul if NO makes the playoffs. If he continues to play this way and the Hornets do well this season then I'd say he is deserving. But I don't think he'll get it. He's just not the 'sexy' pick for the voters right now. It will go to LeBron, Dirk, Duncan, Kobe....Nash if Nash gets 20 and 12 on 55% shooting.

I dont think that really matters though. It is actually 19, and 10, and if you dont think those numbers will dip when the season is coming to it's close, youre crazy. You cant compare that to Nash. It wasnt just Nash's passing abilities that made him MVP. His first MVP award, the Suns had the best record in the League, and the 2nd one, they were the 2nd seed with a much less talented team, and without Amare of course. Whereas the Hornets will do good to get the 6th seed. How many MVP award winners won when their team was the 6th seed? Not many. If Kobe didn't win the award after having that year, then I doubt Chris Paul will unless his team does unbelieveably well. And I seriously doubt that will happen.

Chris Paul is very likable around the league.and keep in mind, I'm not saying Paul will win the award, I'm saying he has a very legit shot. right now, he IS the darkhorse.
