I have been renting a house up in Seattle for 4 years. Well yesterday we just bought a house. The way the whole thing went, it just seemed meant to be. We weren't planning on buying a place until later this summer. On Friday I was driving to work from my favorite coffee shop and ended up driving down a street near my home that I would rarely drive down. I noticed the house for sale, stopped and looked at the flyer. We looked at it during the Open House on Saturday and then again on Sunday with our agent. Offers were being considered for Tuesday at noon. The house was listed at a really undervalued price, but we knew it would go for quite a bit more. Since we live near the home, we noticed a lot of activity with preinspections, interested buyers, etc. My wife and I debated where to set our ceiling. Ultimately I convinced her it should be $5,000 higher than what she wanted. There were 7 offers, and our offer was the highest by $2,500. We hit the value right on the nose. They picked our offer, even though two other offers waived inspection contingencies because they preinspected. The house is a block and a half from where we live now. Our agent knew their agent, which was a plus. Both our mortgage broker and agent advocated for us. It really seemed like it was meant to be. Anyway, I'm very happy about it, but I am going to be broke for a while. Ahhh, the joys of home ownership.

Ok........I waited until I thought Vegas hit the bottom. Was off by a year or so and I am still up over 100 grand. I'll take that debt. 80 dollars a square foot for a top community? Please let me.

1952 Home, single story, small lot (5000 sq. ft.), 1270 sq. ft of home. 3 BR, 2 Bath. This home would probably go for $100,000 less in Portland. Damn the rich Seattleites.

Mozel tov. Sounds like ordinary mortals can still buy houses in the Pacific Northwest? Not here by the Bay. That $100K house would probably be $1 million here!

I'll be renting for a looooooong time.

    Congrats!

You probably could have bought a similar house in Portland for much less . . . but you will be able to sell that house in Seattle for much more. :)

Whats the property tax like in Seattle? I want to buy a house in North Portland in a couple years, but my dad insists I'm going to get raped in property tax and that I could get a way nicer house in Vancouver. Problem is, I never want to move back to Vancouver.
