Well, I'm not one to question anything Girardi does but I think he should have maybe taken Phelps out before he gave up 7 runs. But hey I'm sure he had his reasons.
Rick you get on him for taking guys out too early and then not soon enough. Two guys on and then a blast. Phelps blows.
...^^^ this. ...rick, who exactly do you think Girardi should have brought in, and when? The pen is already taxed because the starters other than Tanaka, can't go past 5 freaking innings. They are also in a stretch where they play 17 games in 17 days. Again, who do you propose they pitch?...geez, get off of Girardi's sack. ...in defense of Phelps, while giving up 7 runs is not good, the HR he gave up, was actually a good pitch.
He'll take out someone like Whitley in the 5th after giving up 1 run & throwing only 70-80 pitches, but he'll leave Phelps in to give up 7 runs. But hey, you're right, I'm a little to hard on Girardi & for absolutely no reason. I'll try to be good.
Hell, no harm no foul....do you recall how I about had a stroke by the 3rd inning of Tanaka's first start...? I got over it quick, but I over react to quick to often....I'm sedating myself these days by counting my breathes before I speak or write,.....tho' its questionable at best if its working, or the high blood pressure meds either.... At least all this has NOT led me to drinking....(more than a beer or two once or twice a month). Your entitled to your opinion(s)... I take no offense....!! I can't speak for everyone and won't attempt to, they have their opinions too, and I respect everything the regulars say here...!! Regulars that is....regs, not the couple of trolls we get on rare occassion...!
...lol, you act like managers don't keep young pitchers on a short leash and/or an innings limit during their first few starts...this is news to you? ...still not sure why you're complaining and singling out Phelps and Whitley. Phelps has already been stretched out and like I explained earlier, the bull pen is already over worked (3.6 innings per game) and is currently amid a grueling schedule. Someone has to pitch those innings. As far as Whitley, I don't understand your reasoning behind complaining about Joe either because the Yanx have won every game he's started except one. And in that one game the Yanx were ahead and Whitley was in line for the Win until D-Rob came in for the 9th and promptly blew the save and the game.
I'm not intentionally singling out anyone, I was just using Phelps & Whitley as examples. Ah the hell with it, Girardi is the greatest.
I have said from the beginning that both Phends an Nuno belong in the bullpen. I am hoping that we see a trade or a change real soon like before his next start with Phelps. They cannot keep running him out there every five days and get the same result can they?
...lol, intentional or not, you did single them out...and again, no one said Girardi is "the greatest"...but you are the only one who referred to him as an "idiot". I also find it funny that you felt the need to create a separate thread called "truce" but still managed to sarcastically call out the people who disagree with you...yeah, some "truce".
...I think you're right, and I think/hope some moves will be made before the trade deadline. I think maybe they are waiting to see how Tex, Beltran, and CC look before pulling the trigger on some sort of trade. There's several possibilities out there to be had...just not sure which way they'll go...pitching? OF? IF?
I've called no one Ron, but if can show me a post where I've mentioned ANYONE'S name here after the truce thread you'll have my apologies & I'll proclaim that Girardi is Casey Stengal, Sparky Anderson, Walter Alston & Billy Martin all rolled into one. But if you can't supply any of the posters that I've CALLED OUT! let it go. I'll wait.
..lmao...uhhh, I was specifically talking about the "truce" thread, ... Jesus, try to keep up. ...and stop trying to act coy...you know exactly who you were talking about in that thread. Instead of playing games, why not just come out and say exactly who you were referring to when you said, "Apparently I've hurt some feelings with my criticism of our wonderful manager..." ...exactly whose "feelings were hurt"?
...also, I find it funny that you now point to Stengel, Alston, Martin, and Anderson as examples of great managers...but according to your own logic someone could claim that "they did nothing special"...and they "did nothing any other manager could/would do."
Holy (tap dancing) Christ Ron c'mon already let it go, I didn't mention any posters names in the "TRUCE" thread because I'm not built that way. I mean seriously why would I point fingers like some 10 year old & say, "Well Ron said this, & Mike said that, and Bill & George said......" You seem to be taking this knock on Girardi very personal, I mean no one else here is taking my criticism of Girardi anywhere near as strongly as you are. So to that effect I'll direct my apologies just to you since you seem to be taking it so hard, and so personally. Ron you & I have always been cool on these boards but sometimes I get the feeling you argue just for the sake of arguing. I mean NO ONE else here has challenged my criticism of Girardi the way you have. But to keep fences mended I'll keep my negative opinions of Girardi to a minimum. I hope we're still cool.
What you call a DIG I call as just a simple "time to put this to rest lets move on". And my TRUCE thread was not a sign of me taking ANYTHING personal, I just felt it was getting milked to death & I wanted to clear the air & move on. It was really just that simple. Glad we're still cool. So.............................................................................................how about them Yankees?
