    Dear MarAzul,

It’s disgraceful that some seniors have to choose between taking their medications or paying off their heating bill. That’s why recently I introduced legislation to give seniors a modest raise by making sure their expenses are calculated more accurately. The Fair Raises for Seniors Act would guarantee that seniors’ Social Security benefits retain their value in the long-term.

Sadly, I had been hearing from many seniors across Oregon that they’re making difficult trade-offs daily just to afford their basic needs. For many of them, Social Security is a lifeline. These hard-working Americans deserve the full value of what they invested over their lifetime. No retiring American should have to fear that those hard-earned benefits might simply start to disappear.

We must fix our outdated model. Right now, the Social Security annual cost-of-living adjustment, which is intended to make sure benefits keep up with inflation, does not reflect the real costs that seniors face. Seniors have different health care needs, financial commitments, and sources of income than other age groups, so naturally, they have different spending patterns. For example, seniors are more likely to spend large percentages of their income on things like housing and health care. Put simply, the Fair Raises for Seniors Act would ensure that the formula for calculating Social Security benefits better reflects those senior-specific costs.

If you have worked hard all your life, you deserve a secure retirement. That’s why Social Security is an important pact we need to keep with seniors. Please know I’ll keep fighting to make sure that Oregonians can earn a secure retirement in return for their hard work.

    All my best,

    Jeff Merkley
    United States Senator

I don't think he can do it, but he wants me to think he can.
Now if he could convince me that he can stop inflation (yes we have inflation) that would impress me. That and calling for all hands push to balance the budget by curbing spending. Dang that would ring the bell!

Makes sense, give seniors a little bit more and then let the death panels take them out. That's a great way to curb spending.

That sounds like an ObamaCare plan. The VA thing is absurd when you look at the numbers the new VA released today.

They are absurd now! I use to think rather well of them, perhaps I didn't notice.
I went to the Clinic in North Bend today, they told me to come in for a blood sample so they could run some test. Yeah, sure. It's about 30 miles up there for me, I got there at 3:15 and they told me to come back tomorrow, they don't draw blood after 3:00. Hell, I had no idea.

I told the the nurse, I had drove 30 miles to get this done, she said I should start a little earlier tomorrow. I needed to get outside before some bad shit started.

Here's the barfo let them eat cake moment.

    Barfo,

Do you believe, as Merkley does, that Social Security is actually a "secure retirement?" (Merkley's term, not mine)

No it's not quite free. They may not charge you money, but it's not quite free.

I don't see where he said that SS is a "secure retirement". He said seniors deserve a secure retirement. He said he'll keep fighting to make sure that Oregonians can earn a secure retirement. That suggests to me he doesn't think the current system is a secure retirement (otherwise, why is he fighting?).

I think it's fair to say that he sees the current SS benefits as an important part of, but not all of, a "secure retirement".

Actually, I consider him a slow mind that supports the policies that inflate the cost of living for the seniors and now he wants send them more money so he can look the hero.
He votes to raise the minimum wage, ban the 100w light bulb, supports policies that raise the cost of energy and fuel. Voted to ruin the health care we had and fails to even acknowledge the harm.
Sending the seniors an extra pittance doesn't even begin to cover the harm he and his democrat dull witted companions have caused.

He doesn't say that at all. Sheesh.

If he wants to fight, how about we send him to Afghanistan?
