Does not have to be a star, just steady, and doesn't make mistakes. I'm sick and tired of the STUPID BRAIN DEAD breakdowns that consistently occur in the defensive zone, because somebody (pick one) is to stupid to pick up the open man (any open man).
We can use a big physical dman to complete the top 4. That will be a focus this summer. And buy out Richards for a better C.
71 suggested Niskanen awhile back..not necessarily a vet who's been there but he would be a nice replacement for Stralman. More offensive capability. Right shot too. Wouldnt be a bad pair with Staal.

Wait, didn't they just sign him to be a 'top pair' guy at 5y/30m?I like him and he's a solid player, but he's a 2nd pair guy who gets overused here and dosen't have enough offense to be a #1. Not by a longshot.
It's just my opinion, but I think the reason Girardi is all over the ice, is because he needs to cover to much real estate because somebody else is playing out of position. On the goal that went in off his skate, he was sliding across the other side of the goal where somebody else should have been. It was WIDE OPEN! With 1 second left in the period, somebody needed to be there. AV needs to get a defensive system, and then find the players who fit that system. Playing out of position, and losing site of players directly in front of the goal is no way to play defense. They panicked this series away. Not saying they would have won, but at the very least they should at least have a win.
