Bruce Garrioch writes that the Rangers have held talks with the Ottawa Senators about center Jason Spezza who is expected to be moved. (Ottawa Sun)

Senators GM Bryan Murray has said that he would prefer to send Spezza to the Western Conference. (Ottawa Sun)

Spezza has a modified no-trade clause and can list up to 10 teams that he does not want to be traded to. The Flames, Canucks, Oilers and Jets are reportedly on the list of teams that Spezza does not want to go and it’s unlikely that the Senators would trade him to Toronto or Montreal. (Ottawa Sun)

The Senators are reportedly seeking a “top end player” who can play in the top-six, a “highly ranked prospect” and a first round pick in the draft. (Ottawa Sun)

Anaheim and St. Louis are reportedly both teams interested in Spezza. (Ottawa Sun)

Calgary has reportedly offered Jiri Hudler, Mikael Backlund and maybe Dennis Wideman along with some second and third round picks for Spezza. (Ottawa Sun)

This is a guy I would include Stepan in a trade for, Spezza is a proven scorer with size and is only 31: Stepan, Hagelin, prospect for Spezza.

I wouldn't go Stepan and Hags. One or the other, and then a prospect/picks.

Stastny is going to stay with the Avs AND he will get 6 years and have a cap hit in the 7's Al. I really don't think I would like that here. That is too much for a player of his ability.

I mean if we add 1 of the big 3 C's available and then sign Stastny, maybe, but that's a lot of money for him.

Good to see that the Rangers are already talking to the Sens. Shows that they are not satisfied with just going to the finals. Great sign that they are aggressive and want to improve the roster. Having said that, we can only hope that they go the smart way about it.

Hagelin is an RFA next year making $2.25 so I would guess he's going to want $3.5-$4. I love Hagelin's speed but that's all you get with him, no physical play and with another small player Zuccarello in the lineup obviously of the two has to go if the Rangers are looking to get bigger. Spezza has 687 points in 686 games and is 6'3" 220, I'll take dopes like that on the Rangers team all day.

Spezza would definitely help but he is 31 and might be on decline. Hags is undervalued as he brings speed and defense.

The thing with Spezza, outside of probably being headed west, is he's a UFA next year so it comes down to how much would you give up for one year of him? If he was signed for 3 years like Thornton I'd be more apt to go after him harder. I'm not a huge Stepan fan but I don't even think I would move him in a Spezza deal for 1y.

Yeah, the team dealing for Spezza takes a big risk OR has an extension in place at the time of the deal. And the Sens will get a good return for him, no doubt.

I think he ends up in StL, who are close to being a real contender plus have the cap space/prospects to really make it work. I'd be pretty shocked if he stays in the EC.

Trades are what sather does best but if the rangers give up a bunch of assets spezza better be coming back with signed extension. I'm not trading Stepan at 24 yrs old unless absolutely have to. Still in the end I hope kessler is the center we end up with

Spezza thinks he is going to the Blues or Ducks. Thought it was a longshot at best we would be really in on Spezza. Didn't seem like a match for us with the Sens.

Report out of shark country that thornton has informed gm there he is happy there but if they want to trade him he will only approve a trade to the rangers.

Here is one where Chuck was ready to give up Stepan, prospects and picks for Spezza who freakin sucks, has a bad back and plays no defense. Yes, but you don't want to get rid of people. Sinner.....

Can we give it a rest with the old thread bumping. Just like every poster on here you both have been dead on about some things and dead wrong about others.

As our long lost comrade would say, we move on now
