I can just smell it. It has all the features of a classic San Antonio cheat:

1 - Timmy, Manu, and Pop retire this summer, leaving the system and much of the roster intact. They tell the team to tank next season. Meanwhile, LaMarcus says he'll resign with Portland.
EDIT: with Pop not retiring, this looks even more likely. The System remains truly intact!

2 - The team tanks HARD next season to win the lottery

3 - They win the lottery, but use it as trade bait to also dump some salary. LaMarcus goes back on his assurances and goes UFA.

4 - They draft for need and sign LaMarcus as a UFA

    5 - 5 more years of contention

    Hello darkness, my old friend
You forgot to mention that Aldridge is from Texas, so he's choosing to go home.

Though, if Aldridge plus draft pick plus leftover roster flotsam can contend, so can Aldridge plus Lillard plus remaining Portland roster. They just need to import The System, clearly.

Fez I have to say that this summer hasn't been nearly as fun without your draft shenanigans.

You couldn't even force the computer on NBA 2K to accept that.

    Although a team of:
    Embiid C
    Parker PF
    Wiggins SF
    Exum SG
    Smart PG

Would be pretty fun to watch.

Not a classic SA move at all.
Duncan and Pop both say they are not retiring.
    SA built mostly through draft.
LA would not opt out to go to a bad team.
Tanking does not guarantee #1 pick and #1 pick does not guarantee a Tim Duncan.

Plus if you are LA, do you really want to immediately follow a legend? Does any player or coach? All those comparisons? Following Timmy would be like following John Wooden. At least by SA standards.

I don't think this thread is so far fetched. It could be like David Robinson and Tim Duncan all over again but with Aldridge and Duncan. Pop already said he will continue to coach the Spurs and Duncan is not retiring yet. I don't care what the reports say it was the same thing last year.

Except the OP #1 scenario is:

Timmy, Manu, and Pop all retire this summer........So why would LA go there?
