The Blazers were among the best offensive teams in the league, especially in the playoffs. What sank them is that their defense is weak. Trading out a solid and versatile defender in Batum for another scorer who can't defend isn't going to get the Blazers closer to contention. Virtually no team has won a title with a bottom-ten defense.

Zero chance Melo agrees to a long term contract in this city people.

I like the idea of being a third team involved. Asik or Lin would be awesome as a backups. Or some players on longer term contracts as we have plenty of expiring.

I'd like to think Morey is a little smarter than going after Melo.

Rather swap LMA for Melo (duh!). Seems that upgrading our #1 option to a guy who is better suited to being that guy makes more sense than swapping out our defensive specialist for a no-defense score-a-holic. Putting LMA, Melo, and Lillard in the same unit would be horrible defensively.
LMA - Melo: Better #1 scoring option, not a big impact to our defense.
Nic - Melo: Increased offense is somewhat reduced by having two guys who don't set up others well playing in the same unit. Defense takes a BIG hit.

Exactly. We were not on his short list the first time and I doubt that list has changed too much. We are better off focusing on the players that need to be moved for cap space.

I want in on any deal involving Lin and Asik if it costs us only reasonable assets in return. Both are overpaid but worthwhile upgrades imho.

You just want Lin so that Lillard and LMA can be voted in as all star starters.

I know me too. I started licking my chops imagining Olshey, out of the kindness of his heart, helping out the Rockets again by taking those two off Houston's hand, so long as none of our starters are involved. And I don't care how much Paul Allen has to pay them. Problem is, I don't imagine we have the salaries to match sitting on our bench.

Melo is such a poor defender, Ike Diogu looked at him and said, "damn, that dude's a poor defender."

    No thanks.
