...no love for Mike Trout? (6 years $144 Mil)...and I think the Yanx may regret giving Tanaka a 4 year opt out.
That's the part that pisses me off Ron, I really hate that opt out shit. Why ANY team agrees to something that stupid is beyond me. For Tanaka if he continues at this pace he's looking at 30M+ in 2018.
The more I look at possible Free Agents, or Opt-Out years for both leagues top SP's, I begin to think with the exception of say Bumgarner, a Vet FA, won't be the Yanx answer, rather young gun prospects....a flood of them coming on board teams, with the Amateur Draft...some good arms, it looks like.... Kershaw can opt out of 30 million in 2019, Greinke in 2016 @ 26 mil, Tanaka 22 mil opt out (like 59 said) in 018.....Darvish a FA in 2018, King Felix (forget about it), won't be a FA til 2020. Bumgarner could be expendable in 2018, tho' the Giants have buy out options for Madison, I really doubt he will accept the paltry 12 million he's supposed to make then. He's only pulling in approx. 3.75 million this year. I can see Madison being on the FA market by then..... but that's not going to help right our ship now...! Or perhaps not in the for-seeable future either. Then we got Wainwright who is locked up til he's 37, and could be a FA in 2019....shit I don't know if I'll even be around by then....LOL...shit...! Cueto will be a FA tho' in 2015, or accept another paltry 10 mil from the Reds...not likely, unless they offer him double his salary, and I'm not sure he's worth it either..? With Jose Fernandez down with TJ surgery, one young gun, I've seen throw 2 games for KC, Yordano Ventura, looks like he could be another Doc K, if handled right. His change up is 88 mph, or equivalent to C.C.'s fastball. Ventura is throwing 100 mph with consistency....just needs some refining. BUT-he's locked up to 2020, forget that one....!
...matts, you're right. The growing trend is to lock up your young talent as early as possible instead of waiting for them to go through arbitration and then free agency. If you have a younster who has been nails for 2-3 years, go ahead and lock him up till he's 31-32 or so.
Yep, then we have this kind of debacle, I've been watching here for a year, in Lancaster- Touted as the 2nd coming of Christ for over a year, guess not- Astros top pitching prospect Mark Appel lit up in return to rotation at High-A*Lancaster By-Drew Silva NBC Sports Jun 1, 2014, 10:14 AM EDT Mark Appel, the first overall pick in the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft, was demoted from the starting rotation at High-A Lancaster on April 25 and sent back to extended spring training after posting ugly numbers over his first four appearances. Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow offered optimism at the time, telling the Houston media that the young right-hander was simply struggling to adjust to the unique piggyback-start system being used at Lancaster. But that is*clearly*not the only thing wrong here. Appel returned to Lancaster’s rotation on Saturday night and got shelled for 10 runs on 10 hits — including three homers — over just 1 1/3 innings in a loss to the Dodgers’ High-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. He now owns an 11.93 ERA in 14 1/3 frames this season. The 22-year-old recieved a $6.35 million signing bonus from Houston after being drafted out of Stanford University in June 2013. The belief was that he could be major league-ready by late 2014. That’s obviously not going to*be the case. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2...up-in-return-to-rotation-at-high-a-lancaster/
