http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports....en-to-being-traded-especially-to-a-contender/ what do you guys think about adding afflalo? hes owed 7.8 mil this upcoming year and we could trade a couple young assets to a young team. i could see them being interested in some of our young guys thoughts?
Well he is a good player and it would not effect our MLE so we could still grab a PG too. I would not hate it at all. Not sure I would be willing to give up on CJ for a guy who could leave after one year. But I would give them a combination of Wright, Leonard, Barton, Claver, and Crabbe.
I would be shocked if Orlando is at all inclined to deal Afflalo. He was arguably their best player last year. IMO, there is no chance that we would be able to deal any combination of reserves for Afflalo.
Don't be shocked. They have Oladipo waiting in the wings. This is a situation much like Thaddeus Young and the 76ers. Both are extremely talented and young but a new direction requires gutting. I would LOVE to get either Young or Afflalo to come off our bench. Portland should find a way to acquire one of them. At least two of CJ, Leonard, and Robinson would be required however. Afflalo is better than Matthews but having him come off the bench would be a dream. He would have the green light to do what he wants.
Two of Robinson, CJ, Leonard. Plus Crabbe most likely. Some cash and or 2nd rounder on top should get it done. Orlando is rebuilding and they want as many young cheap prospects as they can get to build around Oladipo.
So, we would give up a starter at the same position who is younger, a comparable scorer and a better defender? Why?
Would love to add him as a 6th man. Should be a target for us. No clue why we'd need to trade Matthews, makes no sense.
I don't recall ever saying I would do the deal I just think Orlando would want that to be part of the deal.
Afflalo would be great off the bench, but I'm not sure he would like that role. He's a fairly solid starter.
I would not approve of including Matthews in an Afflalo deal. Not as strong as Wesley. Older than Wesley. Not to mention I doubt Orlando would want Wesley because it's another player that would take minutes away from their young guards.
Eastern Conference is horrible + he was on a bad team in that conference. If he going to play with the big boys in the west he would need to play off the bench. He would just need to prove he deserves a starting role and beat out Wes. Thats a good problem to have. I agree though some these Eastern players might feel entitled to a starting job.
And don't forget that any time we don't support a bonehead trade idea, that must mean our player is 'untouchable'.
I think we're already fairly solid in our wing spots-- kinda hoping CJ and Willy take a leap next season to become solid contributors for 15-20 mpg each for really cheap. Not sure we need Afflalo.
If we want to take that next step next year we need to get someone who has proven something, not just hope, IMO.
