I have uniform restrictions at work to. If I mess up, and don't wear the right thing one day, or forget to wear my airborne wings, or put the wrong flag onto my unifrom, the U.S. Army doesn't make me pay money for it. If I was him I would be mad about being forced to pay money for my arm band being a little to high. Furthermore, watch the Wizards right now. If they fined O'neal for this, they better atleast say something to Jamison about his wrist band.

He might have had it in the right spot, scratched his arm or something, and moved his wrist band just a bit without really noticing or thinking about it.</div>Maybe, but he sounds pretty matter-of-fact about it, like he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. He didn't say he didn't know or that it was unfair, just that he couldn't believe it. Now what he is having trouble believing, that is the question.Edit: Also, isn't Jermaine the one that claimed that the league's dress policies were racist? Perhaps they specifically fined him for a reason.

The NBA does.

I'm sure it was an honest mistake, but rules are rules. You let the little things go and all hell breaks loose. They can't cut him slack, it's a rule. Maybe it was strict, but I think it was fair actually. Except 5 grand is a lot of money for anyone (maybe not Bill Gates but whatever.), and maybe it was too harsh a punishment. And why didn't they just tell him to pull it down?

I doubt they would go out of there way during a game to contact him about a rules violation. I'm sure they either watch the game or a taped game and then send out the violations soon after.

So the refs or the coaches or other players don't know the rules?

You know I was wondering why players weren't wearing those bicep bands this year that go above the elbow. They were pretty common last year and all of a sudden were not seen this year. Now I know, I honestly have to say what's the matter with wearing a band above your elbow? I've been lenient with the other changes, because you could actually make out the positives. This one, I can't put a finger on it.

It goes to a good charity. They get paid millions of dollars, they should be able to follow a dress code. If McDonalds workers can do it why not NBA babies?</div>It's not even the fact that he was fined. I understand they should abide by the rules, and I agree. BUT, what the hell was the point to make a restriction like this anyway? Wristbands can't be on the elbow anymore? WHY? WHY? WHY? What is David Stern's motive for even making a rule like this? It has zero affect on the game whatsoever. I don't get it. Stern is power hungry, and he can and will do any little stupid thing he thinks of. It's friggen stupid.

BCB, how do you honestly agree with what Stern is doing? He gets fined 5000 dollars for wearing an arm ban an inch too high? Is that not the most ridiculous thing you have ever heard? I understand that its a rule....ok fine, but WHY is it a rule. Stern has no reason to make it a rule what so ever. Does it have any impact on the game or any impact on the viewers at home? NO!

No. I've been hearing about the same fines for NFL players and some baseball leagues for years, not shocking to me at all. I would rather have players put bands wherever they want, I wouldn't care as commish. That's a bit excessive, but I'm not crying because of the amount of money he's lost... It's like 50 cents to everyone else...

I think that both the NBA and the NFL's policies on uniform code are too strict. The attention to detail in this one is very annoying, considering that Jermaine O'Neal probably does not bust a ruler out when he puts his wristband on, and isn't trying to take anything away from the game, or to make a statement of some sort. If it is an obvious infraction, that is one thing, one inch is taking it too far.
