Just another team looking to move picks for either cap reasons or because they have too many in one year.

    • Bulls: #16, #19 and #49
    • Suns: #14, #18, #27, and #50
    • 76ers: #3, #10, #32, #37, #47, #52 and #54
    • Cleveland has been shopping their #1 as well as Boston at #6

This has been surmised for sometime but a couple of reliable contacts have said they are almost certain the Blazers will acquire a pick as well. There has been some discussion at least exploring moving into the lottery but more likely getting one in the mid-to-late 1st or 2nd round as several teams are looking either to move their pick for a veteran or sell picks because they simply have too many.

Getting a pick from Chicago would be tough. How do you acquire a pick without giving up salary? 16 and 19 for 2 or 3 future firsts?

Mid-to-late first or second round is grossly vague

But I hope you're right. There's a lot talent outside the lotto.

Teams are allowed to spend up to $3M to buy a pick or sweeten a trade deal. Since Chicago doesn't want any salary back for this year, it would either have to be future picks as suggested or cash.

Thats a lot of teams looking to trade out of draft. I thought this was suppose to be best draft class since LeBron class. Looks like the reset of league knows its all media hype.

Do you get the sense it's for a specific target, or just to get a pick?

As of now, just a pick. Without having one of their own they've had to scout the entire draft class. Paul sooo loves the draft and draft process that it seems quite likely they will get in somewhere with someone they have identified. Combine the multi-pick teams and the picks available and it's been shared by a couple very knowledgeable people that they are almost certain the Blazers get in somewhere.

Fez...sorry I don't know exactly where or whom they are targeting and even in years when that was the case, it was made very clear to me to be 'vague'. :shh:

agree, especially for our needs as there are guys in our MLE and potentially BAE price range that could really help our bench

Here is how Paul Allen can buy the #3 pick for $27mill.

Blazers buy the #49 from Bulls for $3mill.
Blazers trade the #49 pick and $3mill to the 76ers for the #32 pick.
Blazers trade the #32 pick and $3mill to the Suns for the #27 pick.
Blazers trade the #27 pick and $3mill to the Bulls for the #19 pick.
Blazers trade the #19 pick and $3mill to the Suns for the #18 pick.
Blazers trade the #18 pick and $3mill to the Bulls for the #16 pick.
Blazers trade the #16 pick and $3mill to the Suns for the #14 pick.
Blazers trade the #14 pick and $3mill to the 76ers for the #10 pick.
Then the Blazers call the 76ers again and tell them they don't like the #10 pick and offer to trade them the #10pick and $3mill for the #3 pick.

Blazers end up with the #3 pick for $27mill.
The Bulls, Suns and 76ers each end up with $9 and still a whole bunch of draft picks which they can sell or trade to someone else.

Not to ruin a perfectly good joke, but isn't there a Paul Allen rule now that limits a team to buying one pick per year for $3 mil?

He's only buying one pick for $3mill.

The rest he is trading a pick and including $3mill with it.

A team can only use 3 million in a given year TOTAL in all trades.

However, I'm unsure if we used our 3 million last year. Year resets July 1. So 3 million now, 3 million in 2 weeks...

Instead of $3mill we could include Mrs HCP.

It is a $3M max total for the year regardless of how it is spent is my understanding.

I just can't imagine allen sitting still on draft night and I also can't imagine why this team would need another late 1/second round pick sitting on the bench. I don't know how but I think olshey will go get a targeted player in the upper portion of the draft

Getting a pick in the draft doesn't necessarily mean they would keep it? They could package it with a player for a more impactful player.....for example

That's what I keep thinking of. Even in a deep draft, if you're looking to push forward and take another step this season, I don't see how a guy picked at 16, 18 is likely to help that situation. However, maybe 16, CJ and a little extra salary does gt you...I dunno who, Afflalo for a generic example. Would make sense to bvuy a pick, and then swap that pick elsewhere
