But if it has names of either "Legends" or "Icons" for the likes of Ruth, Gehrig, et al & the other sections labeled something to the effect of "Additional Fan Favorites" or "Other Fan Favorites" it wouldn't be viewed as great and good... more like gods & titans... If that makes sense

...I understand, I'm just not keen on giving "good" players or players who only spent 5-6 years with the club a place in monument park...IMO, it cheapens the brand and defeats the purpose of having monument park in the first place.
...for me, it's the same with retiring numbers...there are too many retired numbers for players/managers that IMO, don't deserve it.

Sorry, I just don't get Berra not having a Monument.... 19 Seasons in Pinstripes ONLY.....10 Rings, in 14 World Series Appearances, 3 AL- MVP's...15 All Star Appearances.... in his 2nd Year of HOF eligibility a 85.6 pctg of votes....!!!

    14 World Series: 75 Games/ 259 At Bats/ 12 HR's/ 39 RBI's (many of them clutch game winners*)

Yogi was as Great throughout the Season (3 MVP's), as much as he was during Series play.

Handled some of the best Pitcher's of his time...!

    * Tho' Yogi was a bit ahead of my time in his prime, from the old ESPN Classic W.S. Films, its clear Yogi was as much "Mr. Clutch" during Series play as any Yankee, in his era. From the older Yankee and MLB Fans I've spoken with over my lifetime, I doubt you'd get a disagreement on Yogi. Those same "old timers" would always say, when no one else was driving them in, Yogi's bat was scalding hot with RISP, in W.S. play.

Mo', hell, I'd begin chiseling his Monument as we speak, (the Greatest Closer of all time, and future)....I'd also give a Monument to Our Captain...!

    Stengel too...deserves his Monument IMHO....

There will never be another Mgr in MLB as dynamic and uniquely colorful as Casey...!

Lantern in hand walking to the mound.....

bird under the hat walking down the RF line....

    Classic Casey....

Yet, with Stengel its not about the antics on the field, yes, he was blessed with some of the greatest Teams to grace a diamond, yet, Casey himself belongs as much as any player under his tenure...!!!

I agree, but Paul O'Neill had a hell of an impact & spent a few years in stripes.... He would fall into the "Other Fan Favorites" section... it would also eliminate Reggie & others... I firmly believe neither should have their numbers retired, but I would honor Paul O'Neill with a plaque...

A wrongful omission on my part, and the Yanx, IMO...he too deserves a Monument in my blind eyes....!

I think it's really hard to differentiate the success & legacy of Huggins, Stengel, McCarthy & Torre...

If they were to add more MONUMENTS to the existing 5 I would have one for McCarthy (won 6 of 8 world series), Stengel (who won 7 of 10 world series) Jeter & Rivera.

I know & I believe he should... I was more saying what I said as others had said it should be limited to the career Yankee....

I agree. I mean I loved the guy but Guidry was a career Yankee & I don't think his # should have been retired. A plaque yes. Lets face it they really lowered the standard when they retired Jackson's #. O'Neill played 9 years with the Yankees. played in over 1,200 games as a Yankee, Went to 5 world series & won 4 of them. And in 9 years he averaged 20 HRs, 95 RBI & a 303 batting average. And in 76 playoff games his #s were 10/34/281 Not to shabby. And IMO much more deserving then Jackson.

BTW: I also heard that the'll be honoring Bernie Williams next year. Don't know if that means a plaque or a retired number.
