Players drop in the draft for different reasons. Kawhi Leonard was slated to go top 6 in the draft and fell to the Spurs at 15.

I would love to get those Bulls or Suns picks right after the lottery, a really good player could drop out of it.

Also, a lot of people seem to be bringing up Russ Smith as a second rounder.

You know he's the owner. And he's afforded himself the ability to have fun for fun sakes but I HOPE if they purchase a pick there is for a plan to improve the team with the pick. In other words, it makes sense for the team. Not just to purchase a pick so Allen can have his joy and say he got himself into the draft.

With that said, I would def be interested in Chicagos picks as long as it doesnt hinder out cap space come July. The team needs all it's money.

Here's a question. We know olshey wanted saric last year. Would you acquire the 16th pick and package it with CJ or something to move up and get saric? Saric as a backup wing sounds more intriguing than any available FA. Cheaper too.

Paul spends the 3 mil for one pick and starts trading players for others.

Don't want your pick? How about taking Meyers Leonard for the pick? Alan Crabbe? Victor Claver? etc. We could replace the flotsam on the bench with newer, younger, flotsam. :)

"Want" may not be technically correct but perhaps 'interested' is more appropriate. Olshey saw him a couple of times last year is my understanding.

Chad ford said Portland would have taken him had he not withdrawn.
    ------
Saric was actually ranked No. 1 on this list last season before inexplicably withdrawing two weeks before the draft. Saric had a lottery "promise" from the Dallas Mavericks, and sources say he likely would've gone even higher to the Blazers at No. 10. He improved in virtually every aspect of his game this year but the questions about whether he'll withdraw from the draft again or insist on staying in Europe if he is drafted hover over his draft stock.

Why does he keep withdrawing if he is so highly rated?

Maybe he doesn't want to play for the teams that he is targeted to get picked by. I think Splitter pulled out of the draft twice.

Making good money while living comfortably in Europe isn't really a bad thing..

I guess....if you don't want to play against the best and are satisfied with that. That would almost be a 'red flag' to me.

    Low first gems:

Jordan Adams - Unathletic but cerebral. After owning about every advanced stat guru's rankings (HoopsAnalyst, Hickory-High, etc.) I did my homework. Think Bonzi Wells w/ a brain.

Nikola Jokic - Like Adams, Jokic isn't very athletic but he's very skilled and smart. A very solid shooter. Think Spencer Hawes.

Vasilje Micic - Elite passer who can finish at the rim; poor outside shooter, but improving. Think Pablo Prigioni, only a legit 6'6".

Wow TBPub, that's amazing. Whether it is PatterNash, or Rich Cho, or now Olshey, you have secret spies in the organization willing to risk their jobs and tell you the very inner workings of the Blazers secret pre-draft analysis.

    Or you don't.

Olshey has orders to spend $3 million by July 1. We'll get a pick, but it may be early 2nd round. If no pick, then he'll trade something, anything (furniture?) before July 1.
