There is one thing that pisses me off about group stages. Let's say we lose 2-0 to Germany and Ghana wins 1-0 against Portugal, Ghana advances. Goal differential is so stupid to me, I mean if it comes down to two teams with the same amount of points it should be whomever won the match between the two and if it were a tie THEN go goal differential.
Ghana would deserve it for a 2-2 draw vs a great German team and a win vs a Portugal team we drew with imo
Still, it would suck. Gahhh every team in our group deserves to move on imo. Same goes for the group with Italy, England, Uruguay and Costa Rica.
I tend to go by head to head results. If the teams tie in points, then head to head should be the tiebreaker. A group is a group, so common opponents shouldn't count more than head-to-head. It's a bit like saying if Brazil beats Germany 1-0 in the Final, but Germany beats the only common opponent by more (let's say Germany beats Mexico 2-0 in knockout play, while Brazil had a 0-0 tie with Mexico), that Germany should get the win regardless of the head to head game. After all, Germany beat Mexico by 2, while Brazil couldn't score on them. Germany wins based on goal differential. That makes as much sense as your argument in favor of disregarding head-to-head results.
I think Suarez just bit Chiellini. Not even a yellow by the ref. Italy playing a man down, and Uruguay just scored.
