I think he will be better then MCW just because of how strong he is and how hard he works. He may never become a shooter and he may not be a PG but he will be a longtime player in the NBA. I wouldnt trade MCW for 7 only to pick Smart but if I already had Exum id rather play Smart next to him then MCW. or just take Exum and trade MCW for whoever is there at 7, there going to suck next year and dont mind playing a ton of rookies. The Knicks raped the Mavs on that deal. Larkin and a high 2nd rounder in this draft for a declining Chandler and Failton?!
Agreed. Just ending up with Felton is bad enough. Plus they gave away solid assets. Dallas doesn't have a first round pick. Now they gave away both of their second round picks. That makes no sense.
It helps clear cap space for next summer, when Dallas native LaMarcus Aldridge is an unrestricted free agent. :MARIS61:
Dallas did this move with the salary cap in mind mi amigo. They'll have like 33 million to spend after this.
im not sure i see NYs angle here either, i mean they cut a little salary this year, but they are still woefully over the cap with melos cap hold...
Depends on what Dirk wants to take on as a contract. If they can get James, I can see Dirk taking a small contract. If it's anybody else, why would Dirk give up millions of dollars to bring in players who get them no close to a title. Dirk's cap hold will be around $20m, so that takes a big chunk out of the $33m. Unless Dirk signs for a small contract immediately when the FA period begins, of course, and then that money from the cap hold goes away.
holy shit if melo leaves NY is a dumpster fire calderon shump jr smith bargnani amare thats a 20 win team maybe, and now they have calderon soaking up cap room next offseason
Blazers need to be wary of this. He will strongly consider Dallas no matter any assurances he has given.
I don't think they need to really be wary of it. If he wants to go he will go there, the only thing we can do to change his mind is to be successful. If we suck next year then we will probably lose LMA but I don't see him leaving a playoff team for the Mavs especially if they don't make the playoffs.
I think they have given up on bringing Melo back. This seems to be setting themselves up to grab Pau and be semi competitive next year while maintaining cap flexibility to take a run at Durant in two years.
its all about that superteam, and the blazers will be in as just as good a position next year cap wise as the mavs will. after next year the blazers will have about 40MM of cap room (minus cap holds), and depending on the dirk deal, mavs will have about the same
@incarceratedbob: **UPDATED NBA NEWS** Lakers source familiar with teams offseason plans tells #IBN Kyle Lowry is top priority and feels they will get it done
Broussard lists Houston as a likely spot for Anthony and Lebron to go. I would be sick to my stomach. I think melo would be impulsive enough to do it, but I don't think lebron would... It would be a circus down there, but with all that talent you'd think it would be hard for them to lose. And seriously why are Harden and Howard viewed so much higher as Aldridge And Lillard? James Harden is way over rated, but he would kill it as a second scoring option.
