Re: Official 2014 NBA Draft thread As an outside observer, I side with BG here. Initial post said "not hearing anything, but stuff still might happen". Response basically said, "Stuff still happens, even when we don't hear anything". Follow-up basically said, "Um, yeah--that's what I said. Didn't you read my post?" Completely reasonable response. Nothing "dick"ish about it.
Cool historical info on #1 picks http://www.cbssports.com/collegebas...tory-of-havingproducing-the-no-1-overall-pick
onathan Givony @DraftExpress Teams indicating that OKC have refused to engage in any type of dialogue for #21 pick. Speculation is they may have promised someone there? Chad Ford @chadfordinsider One name to watch for Rockets at either #25 or #42 — Russian big man Artem Klimenko. They’ve been doing a deep dive researching him
Re: Official 2014 NBA Draft thread Thank you for the reasonable response. Repped. Not for siding with me, but for proper reading comprehension (now that comment was "dickish", yes, but deserved).
Jonathan Givony @DraftExpress One somewhat surprising name some think OKC could pick at 21: Spencer Dinwiddie. Then at 29 likely go international (Inglis? Bogdanovic?) Chad Ford retweeted 38s ramonashelburne's avatar Ramona Shelburne @ramonashelburne Hearing Clippers are "50-50" on keeping their 1st round pick. Covet salary cap flexibility for FAs, but if right guy is there, they'll keep
Ken Berger @KBergCBS There are several picks in the late 20s "to be had," one exec says. With nine teams lacking first-round pick, strong market for them, too. Ken Berger @KBergCBS Motivation to trade late-first is to avoid using a roster spot -- and guaranteed contract -- on player who won't play. Stay classy, CBA. Jeff McDonald @JMcDonald_SAEN If the Spurs could get anything for pick No. 30. I reckon they'd be willing to move it. It's a deep draft, but not 30 players deep. Ken Berger @KBergCBS Of teams without 1st-round picks, Dallas, Detroit, Indiana, New Orleans and Washington have full $3.2m available to buy pick.
arc Stein @ESPNSteinLine Something to watch tonight: Hearing we could be in for high number of international picks in the 20-to-30 range of this once-vaunted draft Marc Stein @ESPNSteinLine Reason being: Lust for cap space & luxury tax concerns could limit number of teams willing to take players in that range or buy those picks
Re: Official 2014 NBA Draft thread Ken Berger @KBergCBS Motivation to trade late-first is to avoid using a roster spot -- and guaranteed contract -- on player who won't play. Stay classy, CBA. This is exactly why I suspect if we get into the draft, it'll be a late first-rounder (or a late-2nd to take a flier and obtain rights on a player they like), not a pick at the top of the 2nd round. I suspect Olshey would wait to see what's available before he makes a commitment.
Bill Simmons @BillSimmons Celts not nearly as sold on Embiid as people think. The medicals worry them. Could still take him, more likely they trade down. (PS-Go USA!)
Jody Genessy @DJJazzyJody Hearing Jazz continue to "frantically" try to move up from the No. 5 spot. Everything Utah has remains available for trade consideration.
Re: Official 2014 NBA Draft thread I didn't agree or disagree with his post. I was merely pointing out that this seems to be how Neil operates. I don't think it required him taking a shot at my post. Maybe you don't think someone questioning your comprehension is a slight, but I do.
Re: Official 2014 NBA Draft thread It seems like we might be able to steal a player at say 31, on a not guaranteed contract!
Re: Official 2014 NBA Draft thread Absolutely. But I think a late-first rounder is more likely than top of the 2nd round. I just think that the #31 pick likely costs more than, say, the number 27, simply on the basis of the guaranteed v. non-guaranteed.
Re: Official 2014 NBA Draft thread This is the case every year. But I'm not sure why we would spend our caspace on a late first rounder when we need FA money. Depends on who's available though.
blazers are over the cap so it doesnt matter THIS year. next offseason the 1+ million might be an issue but not one that is unsolvable. this is more an issue for teams that are trying to clear max money, where the 1 million leaves them 1 million short
Re: Official 2014 NBA Draft thread Even with the potential increase in the cap, Mo opting out, and the exceptions renounced?
Re: Official 2014 NBA Draft thread No cap space. But a late 1st-rounder doesn't add much salary, anyhow. Not like it'd be hard to dump next year for a future second, if needed for cap space then. It's worth taking a flier. I think we could add some cap space this year with several maneuvers, but I'd think we'd be in just the same place to be barely over and using the MLE. But to be fair, I haven't looked at the numbers for a couple months now.
