Here we go .... Alex Kennedy @AlexKennedyNBA The Knicks, Blazers and Nets are among the teams trying to acquire a first-round pick, according to league sources. Alex Kennedy @AlexKennedyNBA There are a lot of teams that want to acquire an additional first-round pick, but the asking price for firsts is very high this year.
Re: Official 2014 NBA Draft thread So I just did a quick summing from storyteller's site. With Mo gone, we're at 62.6 mil Cap is expected to increase to > 63 mil So we'd have about 1 mil of space. If my understanding is correct, since we'd still be below the tax apron, if we renounce our MLE, would we not have the MLE (~5+ mil) plus our original 1 --> so about 6 mil? Someone correct me here if I'm wrong. I've been running with this capspace thing in my brain for a while here.
I don't think Blazers want a late first round pick for the same reasons as other teams . . . it locks you into a contract and takes up a roster spot for a player that likely will not have much impact. Blazers have enough projects on the bench and are locked into those players, adding another doesn't make a lot of sense. But maybe Olshey thinks there is gem out there that would be worth it . . .
Re: Official 2014 NBA Draft thread I guess it depends what the real current salary figure is. As Platypus pointed out, Sham has us at $62MM.
Re: Official 2014 NBA Draft thread Ya I didn't add Joel in my excel sheet-- oops But still, I'm kinda confused as to how the renouncing of exceptions works
Probasketballdraft @Probballdraft Hearing from various league sources that 1, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 23, 24, 27, & 29 picks in round 1 are available.
Re: Official 2014 NBA Draft thread If that is correct (don't know), that extra million could be useful against other teams who are limited to the MLE when going after a player other teams want and fall into the MLE range. Player could always use an extra million . . .
Story's site didn't put Mo's salary into the total, because it was an option. LaMarcus Aldridge Nicolas Batum Wesley Matthews Robin Lopez Thomas Robinson Damian Lillard Dorrell Wright Joel Freeland Mo Williams C.J. McCollum Meyers Leonard Victor Claver Earl Watson Allen Crabbe Will Barton add up to 62,210,823, and Barton's is non-guaranteed so you could shave off about 1M more if you wanted to ditch him. We can't get below 61.3M without trading one of our players away. You're correct that the cap's projected at somewhere around 63M. We don't get to combine cap space with the MLE. So basically, if we did nothing, we'd get the cap space allotted (say, 2M) and the Room Exception. We're better off just not renouncing our MLE and BAE (which we'd have to do to get "cap space"). Now, if we did something like trade Nic to Orlando for their #4 pick and an 11M trade exception, then we could do some machinations to go after free agents. But I don't see that happening.
Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA Marcus Smart is emerging as serious consideration for Utah with fifth pick, league sources tell Yahoo. Smart didn't workout for Jazz.
