They're suggesting Melo will sign with the Bulls for $15M.

And then they're questioning whether The Chairman will amnesty Boozer.

    Thonus at Bulls draft party:

    Doug Thonus ‏@dougthonus

Folks at the draft party are universally pissed about the McDermott pick. Trying to wait and see, but so little faith in this one

I hope McDermott has a position at the next level. And isn't just a bit role player.

I don't understand why we took back salary after giving up two firsts and a second.

The whole point was to save money to have a little bit more cap space to be able to offer a FA.

Most of the posts I've read elsewhere are about how awful this whole thing was.

I don't get it. I want to see him play before jumping to conclusions.

Lord knows our offense is shitty and this is the best offensive player in college basketball. He's a 4 year collegiate, so you expect he's ready to contribute right away.

Thibs talks about us needing shooting. We got a shooter. More importantly, we got a scorer.

The risk is he isn't athletic enough to play well in the NBA.

I can't tell at this point if it was a panic move, or part of executing a well thought out plan.

Panic? No Mirotic, no Melo, no Love. Hopefully he can pair with Taj in the front court and be Melo lite.

If he's the best the bulls can do this offseason, we should have used 16 and 19.

If not, I won't be saying we should have drafted someone else.

The Randolph bit could be that we would need some depth after finishing a sign and trade for someone.

He's a savvy scorer. Can shoot. Can score inside.

I get some of the advantages. Have a three defend him, he can post up. Have a four on him, he can clock you from outside

I just wonder if he will be good enough on the other end to not be a part time player.

    Edit: talking about mcbuckets

He's probably a better defender than Boozer at this point. I don't worry about our defense - we had three pretty bad/old guys in the starting lineup and a top defense.

If he's no worse than Dunleavy, he should play 48 minutes if he can hold up.

    Rosenthall,

Who's left on your big board for the Bulls at 49?

I had my fingers crossed big dog's son would last to us, but no luck.

    This is a fair assessment.

I've officially gone on record as being down on McDermott. so hopefully the Bulls show me to be a fool.

    In this thread I wrote:

Let's hope the Bulls are smarter than I am.

Despite my skepticism about his athleticism, I'm comforted by the fact that the Bulls seem to have had their eye on him for several years. They've supposedly been scouting him since his sophomore year, and Thibs coached him at Team USA against some of the NBA's best.

So it's not like they're flying blind.

And it's possible that he'll fit in better with the projected roster better than other prospects.

So I'm skeptical, but the optimist in me will give it a shot.

But if you asked me before the draft if I'd prefer McDermott or Nurkic AND Gary Anderson I would've taken the latter 10 times out of 10.

Also....looks like we got Cameron Bairstow. Cool. Good pick.

I think he's playing PF for us.

But if we're playing him and Melo in the front court, who plays PF and who plays SF is really fluid. Like how Boozer guarded some Cs and Noah some PFs.

I also don't know that Boozer is going to be amnestied.

The Bulls took on salary in the deal for McDermott. If they were trying to clear cap space, they wouldn't have taken Anthony back.

On the other hand, Anthony is a really cheap backup PF/C type who's not 100 years old.

I think he is a single player fitting our needs far more than 16 and 19 would net. You want scoring? You got it. Hopefully we land one of the top FA's and the FA signing is more spectacular than Boozer ultimately was.

Agree. While more is usually better, it's not so when it comes to multiple middlin' NBA rookies on a contending team.
