I just watched a segment of a TV program (waiting for a phone call) that had three people telling the host they think Global warming is caused by man. All three were about 30 to 35 years old. I suspect that it is some what like that in this forum, the younger people on one side and the others less committed. Let me ask some different questions relative to the following chart that shows warming, and CO2 levels within the interglacial cycles of the past 400 thousand years or so. I understand that this chart was made from Ice core data covering the last 800 thousand years, although the chart only covers 400 thousand years it does show the earth has a regular glacial cycle. The apex of the warming cycle melts the glaciers and the CO2 levels rises. In this current warming period, Homo sapiens are the apex creature on earth but this is the first cycle where that would be true. During the time of the prior warming cycle, I don't think Cro-Magon man had yet developed. This is the first warming cycle with the Homo sapiens being the apex predator, is that the reason man is blamed as the cause of the warming? If the answer is yes, why would that be the case with the CO2 levels in prior known warming cycles is nearly the same and even higher in the cycle 300+ thousand years ago? Does anyone believe that if man had failed to develop, lost out to the Cave bear or the Lion, the current warming cycle we are experiencing would have been averted? Does man have a chance in hell of averting the next cold cycle? Can we burn enough shit to avoid it?
Stop that MarAzul. This does not fit the narrative decreed by the sheep gods of modern academia. Honestly, to believe that we as a race have so much control over this planet is arrogant.
But we do have the ability to intentionally change the climate. We also have the ability to intentionally eliminate ourselves from the planet. I would say we can be a very strong force here. Not control. But we can do great harm if we want to.
Ha! I just read where I am out of date again. The modern term is Early Modern Human or EMH instead of Cro-Magnon. I guess the change took place in the past 20 years. It seems to be in reverse of the trend that change "Cycles" like in 1190 Kilocycles on your radio dial for KEX, Now it's Hertz.(name after someone or place) Science marches on, I guess.
One last question. Why call people that don't buy the story, "Deniers"? Is it because it has that ring like "Birther"?
Sure, its a given that we could push a button and wipe the planet clean. In the long run it would be negligible. By the time the contents are once again joined, you would never know it happened.
Well, I think we can eliminate ourselves from the planet even if I don't want us to. But I don't think we can stop the warming cycle nor the cold one to come. Probably can't determine the next apex predatory either, but as you say, we can eliminate the current one.
And your bones are recycled in the magma chamber, redistributed as volcanic dust, even the wisest scientist will not know that you ever knew. Rep.
Ha! I gotcha. However by the time line of the graph I posted, it is time to stop anyway. It may result in nothing more than a high concentration of strontium 90 in the ice pack for the next apex predator to ponder.
Nuclear winter (also known as atomic winter) is a hypothetical climatic effect of countervalue nuclear war.
The charts are interesting, if they are in fact valid. I would say that the amount of pollution and gas we give off as human probably does more harm then good. Does it affect the climate? I guess we'll find out.
