From what I can tell, we need a point guard, we need a wing, and we need a backup big. We have the MLE. We have the BAE. We have some assets that we can trade. Pick one PG. Pick one wing. Pick one big. Explain which option you would use (MLE, BLE, trade) Maybe offer an explanation of why you want that player and why you would use the MLE, BLE, trade, etc.
Here are mine: PG - Ramon Sessions (BAE): There are point guards that I would rather sign like Livingston and Chalmers, but I think Sessions is still a good point guard and I think he could be had for the BAE. He can score, he can pass, and he's a bigger point guard at 6'3. Wing - Martell Webster (trade): The Wiz will probably re-sign Ariza for a substantial contract and Tell has sorta faded into the background. I would try to make a small trade to reacquire Martell for our bench. I think he'd be great off our bench. Maybe send them Claver and Wright so they can clear him off their books. Both those guys are expiring deals after next season. Big - Pau Gasol (MLE): Supposedly Pau wants to win, and he's willing to take less money. I think he'd be a great addition. He can play both frontcourt positions and he's a winner. I think coming back to a winner would help restart his career.
Would've loved to get Martell back @ 20 mpg too, but he just had surgery yesterday! Not as into that anymore.
Well if there was any year that we might be able to attractive a really solid veteran that normally wouldnt come here it would be this off season. So it will be interesting to see just how our team is viewed from the outside and how close the rest of the league's players think we are in regards to being just "a player or two away"
Pipe dream MLE - Deng: getting him means we can play Batum more as a distributor and allows us to use him as a backcourt defender more. As a result, it's easier to put Barton and CJ on the court b/c neither has to play (or defend) PG's. Deng is consummate professional, plays hard, versatile, etc. He can also play stretch 4 in the right sets (only next to Lopez). Realistic MLE - Frye: he's been talked about (to death) by me. But he'd be great as a b/u center, and could pair extremely well with Robinson guarding C's and playing pick n pop on offense leaving the lane open for Dame and pick n rolls for Robinson. He'd also pair decently w/Aldridge, although it leaves defense to be desired. Playing Frye also makes it easier to have a non-shooter in there such as Barton or if we got a defensive specialist at guard.
I wouldn't be mad at that haul at all. How would you do it though? Patty with the MLE? Boris with the BAE? Jermaine with the vet minimum? I'm not sure you could get both Patty and Boris.
That's why I said that you needed a trade to acquire one of the three players. I don't think we can just outright sign three players. Maybe do a sign-and-trade for Patty?
If the Heat can do it, why can't we? PG - LeBron Wing - Melo Big - Bosh The super super super friends Dame LeBron Melo Bosh Aldridge
(wing) Sign Marvin Williams for the MLE. 6'9" SF, 9.1 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.2 apg, 43.9% fg, 35.9% 3pt. He'll do what Wright should have done for us last year. Solid 6th man. (big) Sign Jason Smith for the BAE. 7'0" C, 9.7 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 0.9 bpg, 46.5% fg. Solid big with a nice mid range game. the Pelicans signed Asik, so will probably not want to pay too much for him. He started early last season until he went down with a knee injury. Depends on how he is healing. I think he might be a nice upgrade to Joel Freeland. (pg) We own the non-bird rights to Mo Williams, and can sign him up to 120% of last year's salary. I'd prefer to bring him back and have him on the bench - cut Crabbe or Claver.
In that case: MLE - Shawn Marion BAE - Jermaine O'Neal Non Bird Rights - Mo Williams I also like Riverman's suggestion with Diaw. Trade or release somebody needed to make it work.
