Vrbata, Ott and Handzus could fit with the need at forward. Winnik or Raymond as well. Handzus could be a cheaper vet to replace Boyle if Lindberg isn't ready. I'd really like Vrbata but he'll cost 3-4 they won't have.

    Mark Fayne?

Fayne will probably be cheaper than Stralman. Right shot, responsible, and way bigger than Anton. Can definitely play top 4 minutes. Not a lot of offense, but real good size. I havent heard much about him this offeason, could be an under the radar guy. 3.5 mil maybe? Gets 1.3 right now.

Devin Setoguchi? He can absolutely fly and has pretty good size too. Could be a potential upgrade to Pouliot. Bit of a head case but so was Pouliot. Gotta do something to improve the wings if we're standing pat at C.

Sather wants J.T. Miller to make team. Says he would've played in playoffs if not for separated shoulder. (Zipay)

Judging from that tweet, I'd guess another C is not coming.

Tom Gilbert is pretty good offensively for around 1-1.5m, they should think about him.

Stepan/Brassard/Miller down the middle. Doesn't scare me.

Stepan never had 60 points. Brass never had 50 points. Miller totally unproven and the coach questioned his work ethic this past season.

This is what concerns me. The cap really has us in a tough spot. This was not some big time team that could lose Richards and Stralman and Boyle (and maybe Pouliot and D. Moore) and not miss a beat.

I really hope they can add at least one impact guy. I think we need a boost somewhere, hopefully at C. Richards did score 20 goals last season, which gets forgotten.

They really need to do their best to get Stastny here, and then figure out the 3rd/4th line stuff after that.

I don't see Stastny here. They cannot afford him. Need to be creative to try and add an impact guy, or at the very least another solid C.

Larry Brooks keeps hearing that the Rangers aren’t going to pay to keep Dominic Moore. (NY Post)

Moore is believed to be seeking a three-year deal worth between $1.6 million and $1.85 million. (NY Post)

Looks like the whole 4th line, which was really a big part of our success, will be gone. I can live with that if we add another impact forward with size, hopefully a C, to the top 6.

The Rangers have legit interest in Devils defenseman Mark Fayne.

The Rangers have “legitimate interest” in Devils defenseman Mark Fayne. (NY Post)

Fayne, 27, is a right shot defenseman who is 6-3, 210 and averaged 18:18 per game last season.

He played 1:59 on the PK last year
    4 goals, 7 assists
    77 hits, 83 blocked shots

Over the past two seasons when Fayne has been on the ice, the Devils had had 58.2 (2013) and 55.3 (2014) of the shot attempts. (ES)

Last season he started 28.4% of his shifts in the offensive zone, 40.5% in the neutral zone and 31.2% in the defensive zone. (ES)

Fayne had a cap hit of $1.3 million the past two seasons with New Jersey.

He has played in 242 career games and has an average of 18:48 per game. He played in 24 playoff games in 2012 when the Devils went to the Stanley Cup Final.

I wouldn't mind Fayne at all to replace Stralman. Maybe we can get him around 3 mill per or so.

The thing is there aren't any top 6 centers available outside of Stastny unless you think Bolland or Grabovski are. They may as pay a little extra for Stastny and then cut back for the 4th liner/5th dman.

Yes Fayne is a good target. He played good minutes for the Devs. Sather must have seen my post about him the other day haha

I know I'm repeating myself but we really should try to trade Klein for a pick, just to get some cap space. That would free up 3 million. No reason we can't let Allen and McIlrath fight to play next to J.Moore. If we can get a 3rd for Dorsett then we can get a pick for Klein.

I wonder why the Devils aren't bringing Fayne back if they liked him.

With Gelinas Merril and Larsson maybe they think they can go in another direction rather than give Fayne a 2m raise.

Yeah but that also makes you wonder if it's worth giving him that much as a FA. There might be a few guys that could be had for less than 2m who are comparable.

No it is not Dis. Going to be tough to win big if that is our C trio, and the 4th line is totally gone as well.

Plus the last 4 SCF losers have not made it past the 2nd round the following season, so we have that against us as well, and the way to break that streak is not add no one, lose some important players, and have Step/Brass/Miller at C.
